This reminds me of the situation of Tom Brady and the Deflategate, when it was understood that 'it was more likely than not' that Tom Brady had participated in the act of deflating the balls, and NFL decided to punish him even though they had no undisputable proof of his involvement. Letting Ferrari go even though they can't claim even if it was legal is something that will not stick well. Interesting to see how FIA will act on future grey area events like this.

this looks really bad on the FIA. they are either admitting they cannot police their own policies (complete incompetence) or the FIA has a different set of rules for ferrari. i doubt the teams will forget that current FIA president mr todt used to be CEO at ferrari

Mercedes are so good at cheating they can show it in an official test session and people just congratulate them on their ingenuity

Talk with an inside worker at Red Bull, translated by google, not revised. But might be a very nice read anyway.

Source is this page:
http://www.autoracing.com.br/f1-mate-re ... oprio-das/

Quote:
Mate: Sorry about yesterday's pipe!
Me: Talk big Mate, no problem !!
Mate: I almost missed the flight ...
Me: Are you in Melbourne yet ??
Mate: No, we arrived in Dubai just now.
Me: Still ... I thought it was only on Saturday !!
Mate: We came before because of all this hysteria ...
Me: And how are things there ??
Mate: Crazy. There are a lot of rooms and lounges with isolated people, security guards everywhere, a lot of people with masks, a little scary…
Me: Does it take long or is the flight to Melbourne soon?
Mate: Theoretically our flight leaves 3 hours from now
Me: Why theoretically?
Mate: There are a lot of flights being canceled, postponed, the airport is full!
Me: What a thing ...
Mate: There are screenings going on. There are people who will not be able to embark for some countries. It depends on where they came from, a hell of a mess!
Me: Are there Italians on the team going to Australia?
Mate: Yes, but not here with us. They are scheduled to leave London only on Saturday, if all goes well. But I don't know if it will go well!
I serious ??
Mate: I don't know, Adawtow. Our Italians have not been to Italy since two days before the second week of pre-season, so theoretically they would be able to enter any country on the 9th
Me: So it will work !!
Mate: I hope so!
Me: Well, let's talk about what will happen on the 15th ...
Mate: Day 14 in the standings, you mean :)
Me: This, this, the pole ...
Mate: Let's go up, we want pole
Me: Your old confidence ...
Mate: But this time it is well grounded. The whole team is confident for at least one front row position.
Me: But what about Mercedes?
Mate: Strong, but we are able to take pole. It will be a surprise if we don't.
Me: Pole there is important, it is not easy to overtake
Mate: Not really.
Me: And in the race ??
Mate: The race is more complicated. This DAS of the Silverware took us by surprise and in the race it will make a difference! But with Max making the first corner in the front, our chances are greatly increased.
Me: If that happens, he can hold the pace a little bit so he doesn't wear out the tires long before Mercedes
Mate: He will have to do this!
Me: It is not easy ...
Mate: But what's easy in F1, Adawtow?
Me: The preseason was difficult to read this time ...
Mate: You did it live, what doubts were left?
Me: Max didn't make a single flying lap on C5 for us to see !!
Mate: Of course not.
Me: But adding to the flying laps of the last day in C4, you stayed there with that Bottas lap on the 3rd ...
Mate: That's the idea. You didn't have that doubt then ...
Me: But Mercedes gave everything?
Mate: Not on the 6th
Me: And on the 3rd?
Mate: It was the best of them
Me: Did they give everything?
Mate: Did we give it?
Me: Ah Mate, this makes me more confused !!
Mate: You got it, Adawow, I'm sure you did!
Me: What I understood is that you are more confident on pole than in the race, but you do not rule out anything.
Mate: That's it. And there is the fact that we can all improve in the meantime.
Me: And I have no way of knowing ...
Mate: Me neither! We think we have sophisticated car handling in the meantime
Me: Wasn't it good?
Mate: It was great, Max loved the car and Albon finally felt more comfortable. But nothing is so good that it cannot be improved ...
Me: Max forced a lot there in Barcelona, as you told me ...
Mate: Just to improve handling ...
Me: What about DAS?
Mate: We already have some drafts at the factory…
Me: Ah !!!
Mate: Seriously!
Me: They will do it then !!
Mate: Not the same, the Wizard wants to do better, you know ...
Me: Better? Can I guess what?
Mate: Sure!
Me: Tinkering with divergence / convergence and change !!!!!
Mate: Hehehehe
I got it right?
Mate: It could be. Can you change the camber? Can it?
Me: Kkkkk…. I have no idea !!
Mate: They are seeing it at the factory, at the administrative…
Me: When would it be?
Mate: The ideal would be for yesterday! The possible who knows ... Holland, Spain?
Me: Wow ...
Mate: But don't count on it yet. The plan will only be put into action after Australia.
Me: But you said you already have a draft !!
Mate: Of course, some project options are already being made, otherwise it would only be possible in the second semester!
Me: Mate, this is very fast ... say it, go ...
Mate: Next. remember the FRIC suspension that was banned?
Me: Of course !!
Mate: Yes, the Wizard already had some ideas and was doodling some things, including involving the rear wheels, but he always came up against that ban. Now, the Silver people, unintentionally, may have given way for parts of his ideas to be put into practice!
Me: But this is amazing !!
Mate: Calm down! There is something there that you need to consult ... You know!
Me: Well, at least DAS is already released for this season!
Mate: This is true, at least that!
Me: So this is certain that you will do?
Mate: I would say yes, it's almost right
Me: What a beauty, we are going to have a lot of hard runs then !!
Mate: The "man" won't be easy, I'm sure of that! With or without DAS he will have no problem!
Me: Time doesn't pass Mate, everyone's crazy to start

is that safe that corner at Zandvoort? If two cars go wheel to wheel and touch, will that 1 metre high wall be enough if they get air?

It'd be a massive fuck-up if they designed that corner like at an oval, but did not follow oval safety guidelines.

About Ferrari's settlement with FIA one thing that just came to mind: The area of concern was the engine, which is the very specialty of Binotto. This doesn't seem to be a mere coincidence - by being his area of expertise this might have allowed Ferrari to go an extra-mile into the grey area of the rules.

I was honestly surprised to not see any SAFER barrier there. Does anyone know if that is planned later on?

Hmmm, why did they have to point out their support for the President when the teams complaint didn't specifically mention him??

Todt is an autocratic douche, even if it's not about him, it must be about him

They’ll be there. They’re still on their way over from the US. Same with Tec-Pro barriers, just haven’t been delivered yet

Well that does it then

No way with the FIA start without Ferrari (and also Alpha and Alpha and whoever else, but mainly ferrari)

RIP Australian GP 2020

(Though I hope they carry on with the support races and maybe let F5000 take the main slot instead)

All the teams stuff is already on the way or in Australia already. They'll have the staff needed there so should be fine. It's the needing anything from the factory that will bring the first issues.

It's going to be an interesting one from a PR point of view if it does go ahead

The whole goddamn world seems to be overreacting to this atm (yes, it's serious, but people overreact to less serious things anyway so they'll go OTT with this), yet F1 is pressing on with the Grand Prix.

When Rugby, Moto Gp, Formula E and whatever else have cancelled their events to err on the side of caution, how will F1 carrying on for a goddamn car race go down PR wise?
It might be 100% fine, but just carrying on as normal in these circumstances would be a worse PR move than cancelling the race.

And lets face it, it's only carrying on because it makes good money for Liberty and they need 22 profitable races (well, maybe 18 that actually make money ;) ) for their investment.
The ones they can stand to lose (china, Vietnam maybe because nothing makes money in its first year) they probably will, but Aus is usually rammed and is probably one of Liberty's key money makers, so it'll go on no matter what

Hopefully it won't backfire on them. If even one person dies from the virus from being at the GP, then it'll be a PR disaster.
Unlikely, because Aus is not at the epicenter of this, but you never know.

*edit* *also, shit, this post better not come back to bite me the way I idly speculated what the aero kits would do to Indycars in Indy 500 spec, and within a few hours we had multiple blowovers as a direct result of the aero kits. PLEASE!* :P

If anyone in the paddock/teams gets it that'd make the championship hard to continue

If a local outbreak can be directly traced back to a gp all other races are fucked.
It will be interesting 2 weeks after the Aussie gp
