Yeah, neither HRT was allowed to start in 2011 & 2012 and then of course the Marussia fiasco in 2015 but they didn't turn a lap at all that weekend.

F1tv doesn't work as I feared. The 2018 races already didn't load and now the live feed has the same problem, already contacted f1tv but they just said clear cache and cookies but even the Android app doesn't work. I think they geoblock Belgium although the stream should be available here. Anybody has any ideas here what else I can try?

Edit: yep they geoblock Belgium although it is officialy available here ( I purchased it) now using a VPN set to USA and all the streams work. Only the world feed has some digital break up since halfway through the session. Angry e-mail already send.

Is this not a concern for F1? They keep talking about safety, yet seem happy to flash up "NEW LAP RECORD" every race and advertise how the cars are the fastest and meanest they've ever been. Even though speed is directly correlated to the seriousness of impacts, tracks being equal.

Ricciardo's helmet is fantastic. You can draw it by hand and you can pick it out at 50 paces. No fucking polygons.

There's no way they could upgrade Zandvoort to a Grade I track (no room or money), and yet they apparently have an outline for a deal for next year. It would be unwise if Liberty were leaning on the FIA to compromise on track safety - Charlie wouldn't have tolerated it, but now...

The faster cars also make passing even harder

Really?

Autosport.com on Tuesday October 2nd 2018 wrote:
FIA race director Charlie Whiting believes Zandvoort would need "minimal" changes in order to host a Formula 1 grand prix.

Whiting recently visited Zandvoort to determine what course of action would be needed to bring the circuit up to modern F1 specification, having last hosted the Dutch GP in 1985.

The track was then rebuilt and shortened to its current length of 4.3kms (2.6 miles) and it has hosted contemporary F1 machinery in demo runs, with Max Verstappen breaking the track record in a 2012 car earlier this year.

The circuit co-owner has also stated that an F1 return to Zandvoort is "realistic," with Whiting now believing it is a feasible project.

"I think there's great potential there in Zandvoort," said Whiting when asked by Autosport.

"A few things need to be changed there, and there's a great willingness to change. "But I think it's rather too early to be talking about that.

"They're coming back to us with some proposals, and we'll see purely from a circuit point of view - nothing to do with the commercial elements of it - but from a circuit safety point of view I think it could be done.

"There would be a nice long straight good enough to use DRS well, and you'd maintain the historic elements of the circuit as well. I think it would be a very nice circuit."

Asked if changes to the layout would be required, Whiting said: "Not a lot. The amount of work is relatively minimal."

Whiting stressed that more elements will need to be considered before the venue would meet all of F1's requirements.

"I went to look at it [Zandvoort] from a safety point of view," Whiting added. "Could the track be modified to cope with modern F1 cars? That's all.

"Now how big the paddocks are, access, where you are going to put spectators is not something that I would get involved in normally."

Following the Russian GP, Whiting travelled to Hanoi to look at a potential site of a Vietnamese GP.

The site is around 9kms (5.6 miles) outside of Hanoi in an area undergoing development, with some roads intended to be used in a grand prix yet to be built.

The 'minimal' refers to changes to the layout, as you can read in the article. The problem is not with the layout per se, it is with runoff.

I couldn't be certain, but I would suspect that there had been a discussion along the lines of 'you need to increase the runoff here, here and here' 'okay, we think we can do it, we'll put a proposal together'.

And as the man himself says;

Quote:
But I think it's rather too early to be talking about that.

Talk is cheap, especially when there are several other obstacles before any race proposal formally lands on the Safety Delegate's desk.

The particular scenario that I was envisiging was that Zandvoort don't find the money to make the upgrades but Liberty sign a deal with them anyway and then lean on the FIA. Charlie's position is well-established in that interview - no upgrades, no race. Will his successor hold the same opinion?

This actually goes beyond Zandvoort as Liberty are still rattling their sabre over Silverstone and Ross Brawn is on record as saying that any London GP would be a London GP and not a substitute British GP.

But there's only one circuit in this country at Grade I, and after the Donington shambles I don't see anyone forking out the money needed to bring their circuit up to standard. So how do you hold a British GP at any track that isn't Silverstone?

So we don't reckon Ferrari could have been sandbagging in practice?

Unless Vettel gave a massive bluff, Ferrari didn't seem to be expecting such pace from Mercedes.

Ferrari fastest in practice: Mercedes sandbagging, qualifying is the true test

Mercedes fastest in practice: OMG season over, stop watching.

Well Mercedes is the banner of compromise and good engineering since the 30's and Ferrari is just a mess since ever so when they release the beast there's no way to defeat it

Mercedes 1-2 on qualifying

Yeah well, maybe the new race director will love VSC even more than Charlie did and keep putting it out until Mercedes get confused by it as they sometimes do and Ferrari can pit and win that way

It's not over yet....Vijay Mallya's fat lady isn't singing...

Amazing private joke, but isn't it "sinking"?

Please don't edit it though, it's fucking golden, I'll use your version from now on to confuse the crap out of people
