Jerez is a cool track but the lap times are too short for F1. The track record is a 1:14 set by Schumacher in 2004.

Excuse the country bias, but Portimão would be an interesting choice. It was built with F1 in mind, it's got elevation changes, interesting corners, it's in a good area and it would definitely gather a crowd. Shame we can't afford it.

Jerez is longer than Zandvoort and Spielberg so I don't think length is a problem. Lap times were around 1:20 in 2015 winter testing so yeah, would most likely be around 1:15 now - I think that's fine

Portimao would be a nice addition. I'd prefer taking it back to Estoril, though. But I can't imagine there's going to be another race in Portugal until we get a top Portuguese driver

I'm sorry, but all I can think about Portimao is the summer of 2001 when that receptionist lady told me that there are no go-kart tracks nearby, "Not in Portimao". But we tried to look one with my dad and took a 50km taxi drive only to find a pedaling car playfield for kids.

Fuck Portimao.

Also I watched Indy500 for the first time. My favorite driver was on the pole so all hopes were up.

Yeah, fuck Portimao.

Classic nostalgia shit. People simply forgot how awful Magny Cours was  It was Catalunya-boredom level.

The unfortunate thing with Magny Cours is that it's a great track that is sadly crap in terms of racing. I think the pre 2004 layout for Circuit de Catalunya was the same (Don't think it's as good a track with the 2004/2007 changes) as was Imola.

I think Zandvoort is going to end up been similar. It's a brilliant track (One of my favorites) but I don't think it will be all that good from a racing standpoint, In the dry at least.

In relation to GP4. I'm sure I had that running on Windows 7 64-bit at some point with the help of GPxPatch & I think changing the compatibility mode to Windows XP with the Disable desktop composition box ticked.

I've got Grand Prix/Grand Prix 2 on my system currently running via DOSBox, I may dig out my copies of GP3/GP4 later & see if I can get them running. Been in the mood for some older games recently, Spent today playing the 1st WRC game on PS2.

Waaaay more overtaking into that hairpin and out at Magny Cours than there ever was at Barcelona
Don't forget in its last race Lewis had to overtake through the field, cut through chicanes, had to give places back, overtook more people. Was pretty legit for a 2008 high downforce era race.

With DRS it wouldn't even be half as bad now as it was, less DF soon too

Yeah but he didn't. He went from 13th to about 8th, back to 13th again and finished 10th. It was a pretty boring race, like most of them there. Alonso struggled to get through the field the year before too

I agree that DRS would make a difference. The 92-02 layout wouldn't have been much better with it because it was too stop-start, but the current layout you could've had zones between Estoril and Adelaide and between Chateau d'Eau and Lycee which would have been alright

I still don't get the nostalgia for the place, though - it was a boring shithole in the middle of nowhere, and everyone other than Prost and Ferrari hated going there

It lost it's character when they massacred the final sector.

Nah, it lost it when they paved the fast chicanes. That was a couple of years before.

Installed GP4 earlier to see if I could get it running on newer hardware. This is all on Windows 7 64-bit (Yeah still running 7) so don't know about Windows 8/10 but here's what I did...

Installed game,
Downloaded/Installed the official patch (Available HERE),
Downloaded the Decrypted No-CD patch (Available here) & copied the GP4.exe file into the install folder replacing the original,
Right click on GP4.exe & set compatibility mode to Windows XP (SP3).

And when I started the game the game loaded & ran without issue. You have to start the game via the GP4.exe file as you get Direct x 8 errors trying to start it via the Autorun file the default desktop shortcut links to.

And to get it running in widescreen if you want it to:

you know, judging by the ammount of cattle in the world, if they get spared they'll release a whole lot of methane, even after their deaths the decay will produce greenhouse gases and fuck up the planet even more
