Turned out this was a 2-car crash:

https://www.tsoladder.com/2018/05/21/in ... s-collide/

Not good when there were only 9 cars in the session.

Windom & Belardi has withdrawn as there was too much damage / not able to repair it in time.

No backup car, and too much damage to fix in three days? That sucks.

Looks like lightsare setting new traditions by staging their own bump day, but taking the bump part too literally?

Will there be any streams for the Carb Day Classic?

I think the only time I've seen it, was when I was there. Terrible racing, though.

Someone stated in trackforum that Tony Kanaas said during a radio interview Conor Daily got offered 2 Million Dollar and engine lease for next season by Honda in order to give up his seat fpr James Hinchcliffe but declined.

Welp he won't be driving a Honda next season then.

If they are going to put Hinch in another ride for the 500, make it in their own team. Harvey or Howard.

I hope they don't, but it can happen. We, as fans, need to realize that it's the car that qualifies, not the drivers. Driver changes can happen. It's not the way we want it too (drink the cup of defeat and move on), but can happen, will probably happen and it has happened many times before.

Hinchcliffe is doing the media tour, with all the other qualified drivers. That may be an indication, because Pippa Mann is the only driver entered in the event, to not take part.

That's how much Indy means...

Or he's lost his mind. $2,000,000 and an engine lease for next year would just about guarantee him a full time drive somewhere.

If he had a chance of running well, I'd understand it, but right now he's either going to crash or finish dead last of those that see the chequered flag. The car just isn't up to it.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Or they could just dial in a little extra downforce, impress a patient approach upon Daly, and avoid all the other lunacy to grind out a decent finish.

Depends how much lunacy there is. If two-thirds of the field crash then dead last of the runners will be a very good finish, but I'm not convinced it's going to be that manic.

Jack Harvey has also said that he wouldn't take any amount of money to give up his seat for the 500.

True. It's hard to tell. Practice was pretty clean (only two incidents in race configuration), but you just never know how thoroughly teams tested how the balance changes over the course of a full fuel run. Also, despite the lack of incidents, there were plenty of driver comments about how difficult the cars are in traffic. Remove the "we're just practicing" conservative approach on Sunday and suddenly there could be opportunity for someone taking a patient approach to gain spots lost by the crashers.

It's been awhile since we've had a full on demo derby Indy 500... Could be due... What the forecast for Sunday in Indy?

What does last place pay? If it's less than £2mil then both might look back on these decisions with regret later in the year.

Maybe all the drivers are waiting for a similar offer that Honda made Stefan Wilson in 2017, to make way for Fernando Alonso.

Last places pay about 200k, according to was I found from last year's race. Apparently if you're a full time entry, or qualified well, you earn a bit more (300-400k). I don't know how it works.

Sato earned 2.46 milion USD for winning last year. It's safe to say 33rd place pays less than 2 million either USD or GBP

Total 2017 purse was 13.2 million USD. That averages 400k per entry but with the winner's prize ballooned, I guess 33rd place earns ca. 200-250k.

Selected purse for last year's race:

1. Sato 2.46 million
2. Helio 770k
3. Jones 536k
4. Chilton 484k
5. Kanaan 438k

24. Alonso 306k
32. Dixon 446k (includes pole bonus)

Cloudy, temps win the 80s, and storms are a possibility.
