No, I 100% disagree! It sucks but it should be 33, no more, no less.

Tradition trumps heartache. That is Indy.

It's Indy. If you're not fast enough, you don't start. Simple.

"Raph" (R) (#35) - Did not arrive <--- odd reason to DNQ

are they still able to get themselves a spot in the grid? thought that when Andretti was bumped and payed Foyt to put Hunter Reay in the grid that was forbidden

my bet on Claman or James Davison

An actual qualifying day with drama of who will make it in the race, that's good.

No way will the #19 be bought out.

Davison is a possibility although it's not just Foyt who owns that entry and the other 3 partners might not be so enthusiastic about the idea.

Howard seems to be the 'favourite' for the chop although there are complications - the sponsor is apparently a personal friend of Jay's and if you piss him off by kicking his driver out of 'his' car, then he probably won't come back. Not to Schmidt, anyway.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Bummer for Hinch but that's bump day.

Have to wonder if Hinch would have made it in, if the qualifying schedule wasn't ended early to fit in TV interviews during the broadcast window.

Theoretically, they could, but there would be some heavy negative press on that move. Lots of people crucified Andretti and Foyt for the move.

A day or two after time trials ended that year, Chris D, his family and I were driving through the town of Speedway when we saw a sign at the Speedway Twist-N-Pup, an ice cream and hot dog place. The sign read "FREE ICE CREAM FOR RYAN HUNTER-REAY... OOPS $$$"

Lots of people were not happy about that move.

That's happened a lot of times over the years. From memory, the Comptech team entered Parker Johnstone in a Reynard-Honda for the '95 Indy but never showed up, and the Burns-Adcox team entered three cars for Johnny Parsons, Tero Palmroth and Fredrik Ekblom (or other drivers) but the cars never showed up, all in that same year.

Sadly yes, but it's how it had been always.

In 97, they let 35 starters, but that was because of the stupid 25/8 rule.

The car qualifies, not the driver. So yes, it can be done. It sucks, but it happens.

Ask Junqueira.

Funny that in 1995 Penske chose not to buy any of their drivers in, even though they had 3 great drivers bumped

"We are not going to buy our way into the race because we competed on a level playing field." -Roger Penske, right after his team failed to qualify

And what's interesting is for the past two weeks, Penske Racing was trying anything and everything to get in the race. They used their year-old cars. They got a '94 Reynard from Pagan Racing. They got two '95 Lolas from Bobby Rahal. They did whatever they could to make it in the race, until 6 p.m. on Bump Day. Penske took his failure to qualify the right way.

Once Servia improved then SPM should have gotten Hinch in there. There's no excuse for getting beaten to the line by Pippa. The gamble didn't pay off.

Found the entry list from that year as of 7th April '95 since those entries weren't mentioned at all on Wikipedia. I've been going through past Indy 500's all day.

Pippa is actually quite likable. What else does she do during the season?

She divides her time between working at (last time I counted) 2 or 3 racing schools (Barber, Porsche and recently AMG), has had a hand in a karting team, and recently put her name to a young driver scholarship for girls looking to break into motorsport. Aside from that, quite a bit of promo work for her various sponsors (recently most of this for Donate Life, due to her friendship with Bryan Clauson's family). Oh, and very occasional punditry on radio, and some appearances in Super Trofeo last year. Her extra runs with Coyne in recent years were the result of extra money from the sponsors, I think.

She puts in a crazy amount of work for her Indy run; it's literally self-funded in a sense of she has no PR or management and does literally all the legwork. Pretty gutted for her tbh.

IF Hinch doesn't end up starting then the fact it's a double points race is going to hit him real hard in the championship.

He's currently sitting 5th on 144 points, Only 34 points behind Newgarden.
