This is why I don't like Raikkonen! I remember once when he walked into a young child in the paddock, the child screaming because he was hurt and Kimi just kept on walking. Real classy! not!

Only Vettel, Lewis or Fernando could have pulled that off!

That’s not what happened though

Seems that woman was more concerned about an autograph from Kimi than her child. Her fault, not Kimi.

As for today, yes it may seem heartless by Kimi but we don’t know whether or not he asked over the radio if the mechanic was ok, or whether or not the team told him to avoid the scene and go straight into the garage.

Kimi must be really into BDSM, because he is great at choking.

With BDSM someone has to do the choking (which would make sense, as it’s Ferrari), unless you’re suggesting Kimi is in to self-mutilation?

Completely agreed Scotty.
Above all they should ban the green light and go back to the lollipop man or any other safer solution. Haas in Australia, Ferrari twice this weekend, Sainz in Abu Dhabi... It seems like every race there is a massive fuckup in the pitlane now.
Teams are trying to shave one tenth off their stops, wasting loads of money and putting the safety of all F1 crew at risk.

I just saw what happened to Kimi's mechanic. Truly awful.

I know we really want to see 2 second pit stops, but I think it's not worth having anyone standing in-front of the car at any point during a pit stop. They should be forced to work from beyond the extents (width) of the car.

Considering what happened to the cameraman from Webber's wheel in Nurburgring a few years back and the fact cars are frequently being released without the wheels done up we are lucky no-one has been killed recently. FIA should lift their game.

It's worth remembering we had the two Haas being released unsafely in Australia, and this happened to Kimi twice this weekend. Something must be done indeed.

I just don't think, in today's case, a typical lollipop would have prevented the injury of Ferrari's mechanic.

It would. The lollipop man typically used to wait for all tyre mechanics to lift their hands. He'd have easily seen his guys hadn t even removed the old wheel.

Men can make mistakes too, but not as obvious as today's release.

Completely agree with the general sentiment here. Keep mechanics out of harm's way, or impose a 3-second minimum time or something

only saw the last few laps live. Not a terrible finish at least. Happy to see Honda get a top 5. Also sad to see about the injured mechanic.

Also nice to see ESPN actually listen to the fans by broadcasting a full race without commercials. Surprised that the channel execs would even allow it. Hope that continues throughout the year, at least for the races on ESPN2

I might be wrong, but I think it's the Chief Mechanic's job to check if the four wheels are properly attached, no matter he is using the lollipop or the button. It's his job to ensure the car is safely released, and in this case, he released a car which one of the wheels hadn't even been taken out.

The fact the wheel wasn't even taken off the car tells me a simple lollipop would have easily spotted it and prevented the release. It's not like a nut was jammed and the guy was taking a split second longer than usual to fix it. The split second wasn't the difference here. This was totally avoidable under the old school.

Why not a release system triggered when all 4 tiremen have hit a button confirming they're clear?

If they did that's a pretty horrible judgement of priorities.

Did not know about the button system but if all teams had to do it, then it's fair for everyone.

Or...given it's F1 and high-tech stuff is the norm, how about a sensor that warns a driver that not all four wheels are properly fastened?

we had 2 incidents with the Haas team, and now Ferrari.

I wonder if a real lollipopman would do a better job instead of the lights system they have now? Someone standing in front of the car must have a better overview I guess.

Or a system that knows it needs a tyre to come off, and a tyre to be put on and only then a signal is given and if all 4 wheels are firmly attached the light will turn green.
