From that T1 angle of the Howard/RHR piece, once it got to Dixon's impact with the fence you can get a better view of the photographer. I don't think any debris got him. It looked like he just took a bad fall when he jumped away from the fence.

Wait, really? I thought they were for the less batshit crazy wheel contact on ovals. There's no carbon fibre bit you could put on the cars that would withstand that kind of speed difference.

I didn't think they were designed to stop a much slower car car vering across the track and being hit by a much faster car.....

No it isn't. They're supposed to prevent wheel interlocking and wheel-to-wheel contact leading to lift.

Dixon was doing at least 40mph more than Howard. What do you think is going to happen in that situation? Would you prefer it if he had submarined instead?

Whatever man, they're taking the damn things off so I guess they've looked into it and realised it was something they did more to look like they were doing something rather than fixing the downforce that made the dallara fly in the first place

At least next year open wheel cars won't be looking like damn LMP2 cars from behind

I think there designed more & work more effectively when you have cars running at similar speeds, side-by-side where in the past a slight rub of wheels could launch them.

When you have a big closing speed like we just saw, Especially when the car that gets run over is coming down the track at an angle, I don't think there's much that is going to stop them getting launched the way Dixon did.

Yeah, that was my point - everything has a structural limit, and this clearly exceeded it.
