already 0-1 on races getting in this week in Indiana with the Tony Hulman Classic at Terre Haute being postponed. Hopefully that's the only race that has to be postponed due to weather. Forecast isn't looking good for Sunday though. :(

Looking at the Little 500 entry list, it's kind of fucked up to see an (R) next to Tony Stewart's and Kenny Schrader's names. I know this is their first Little 500 but it's still odd to see them listed as "rookies".

I'm more shocked that it's both their first time running it, I believe it was even on the USAC schedule for a while (although most skipped to run the Night Before at IRP anyway, until Pavement Midgets with the big motors got too expensive)

Guess some can say the same for Alonso, but it is his first time on a oval so I give that a pass.

GP2% Milk.

Jay Howard opting for the water with food colouring in it. Hinch has sensibly gone for the proper stuff this time.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

No, this is his version of the age-old 'if I have a diet Coke, the Big Mac doesn't count'.

A very good article from Indy Star on why no IndyCar fan should prefer Alonso to win the 500.

http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/co ... 343760001/

I do agree, but I could imagine not everyone does.

His overall thesis makes sense, but I did roll my eyes at this:

Quote:
These are the most alpha of alpha males...

Ignores the fact that women have been doing just fine in the race for like, 40 years now.

My answer would be "I'd drink it straight from the cow's utter if I'm guaranteed the win"

F1 and the Indy racing series have always been this way though, especially pre-split days. As the top North American open wheel series, CART used to have a *lot* of drivers with past or future Formula 1 experience, to the point where it sometimes simultaneously resembled an F1 retirement club and an F1 developmental series. :p

In 1993 (the year where two-time Formula 1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi beat the then-current Formula 1 champion Nigel Mansell) for instance there were ten drivers in the field with F1 experience. In addition to those two, you had Teo Fabi, Danny Sullivan, Roberto Guerrero, Stefan Johansson, Raul Boesel, Mario Andretti, Nelson Piquet and Eddie Cheever. (Add future F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve for making 1/3 of the field having some F1 credentials.)

In 2017, we have: Juan Pablo Montoya, Max Chilton, Fernando Alonso, Takuma Sato, and Alexander Rossi. So a fair bit less. Actually what I think is more common now is people who have jumped directly from Formula Renault / Formula Three / Indy Lights into Indycar and never looked back.

It's not 1993 in prestige, but IMHO this is a much preferable list compared to, say, 1997 (drivers with F1 experience: just Roberto Guerrero, Vincenzo Sospiri (if his "F1 experience" counts :p), Eliseo Salazar, and Eddie Cheever)

I think it is very similar as what happened when Verstappen entered F1. A kid with hardly open wheeler experience. It looked all too easy drive.

If Alonso would win or in the contest of winning, it will be very similar.
