Tony G back to put the shits up Ericsson.

Potentially for Bahrain as well.

And if Ferrari digs its chequebook out...

as you guys can see, looks like they moved DRS sector even further down the straightway, meaning they don't want it to work

Seems like something else is going on besides wehrleins injury.

I was looking at the same thing. Then again that hairpin is a great overtaking place, so maybe this will move overtaking from midpoint of the straight to the braking zone instead, making it look more natural overtake manouver rather than fly-by.

What was Wehrlein's injury exactly? Did he broke his vertebrae or was it compression damage to disc? Either way if he was operated, these type of injuries are always individual and takes different time to heal. I don't see any conspiracy there.

If Pascal wasn't fit enough in Australia it was always a very strong possibility that he wouldn't make it to China. After all not much can be done in 2 weeks with that kind of injury. A month or so of more recuperation and strengthening, and he has a very strong chance of recovery.

Having said all that....its Sauber. So funny buggers abound.

------------------------

I've had 45 minutes from that last post to think about my own conspiracy theories :D

So with the Honda interest, is this Sauber's way of trying to angle for a Merc engine supply next year??? Hey, your man is injured and until we are 100% convinced he is fit we will put our Ferrari backed driver into the car....unless you know, he is miraculously fit if there is an engine deal on the table...but better hurry because we can hear Honda at the door.

DRS isn't actually needed in a freaking 2 mile long straight or however long it is.
They still managed to overtake here in 2004, one of the worst seasons by miles

Whatever conclusions are drawn at the end of Sunday's race will not be an accurate reflection of the 2017 rules because if you can't overtake with that long of a straight, you have serious problems.

The injury itself is probably fine. But he's suffering for the two months of lost weightlifting. I'm guessing that his long runs at Barcelona weren't at anything near full tilt, and when he tried them in Melbourne he came to the conclusion that his head would fall off by lap 20 if he tried completing the race.

He was shown on TV doing interviews whilst qualifying was going on and his neck looked very thin.

I would think that if there was something else going on then Schmidt or Rencken or someone else would have been tipped off by now.

Hope for some rain, just to see how the cars handle it.

Happy for Giovinazzi, but speaking of neck/vertebra/back injuries, yes they are individual.
I had lower back surgery in late december, nurse told me not to work out with weights for 6months, doctor told me 3 months, and i was back to weights early February, so after 1,5 months.
I had to work out at least 2 months now to get anywhere near the shape I was before. And of course many of the movements are still stiff and have to be careful.
Driving this 2017 spec car with a stiff and not fully healed and strong neck is really risky.

Something else to consider is that these cars are apparently punching a much bigger hole in the air than the old cars so the slipstream is a lot stronger & more effective than it's been over the past few years. So its likely that circuits such as this which feature long straights will need the long DRS zones even less than they did the past few years.

The downside of that could be that the better slipstream along with a more powerful DRS (Which it is this year apparently) could make things a bit too easy on circuits like this.

Something I would like to see them do is to evaluate DRS over practice & adjust the zone length over the weekend to try & get a better balance than what we have sometimes seen over the last 6 years.
