CAN-AM DUEL AT DAYTONA
Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

February 23rd @ 7pm EST on FS1
Race Length: Two 150-mile/60-lap races

Race Format:
- New for 2017: For the first time since 1971, the Can-Am Duel will be a points-paying event. Both races will act in the same format as "Stages 1 and 2" would in a standard Cup race; that is, the winner of each Duel will receive 10 points, with the top ten finishers in each race receiving points as well (9 points for 2nd, 8 for 3rd, etc.). Unlike a standard race, however, drivers will not receive a Playoff Point for winning.
- The two fastest qualifiers (the Daytona 500 pole winner and the outside pole winner) are awarded the pole positions for each Duel race respectively. These drivers will be locked into their respective positions regardless of Duel finish, provided they do not switch to a backup car due to an accident or other means, or if they make an engine change.
- Starting positions for the Duel races are set by qualifying speed. Drivers who qualify in odd-numbered positions compete in the first race, while drivers who qualify in even-numbered positions compete in the second race. The number of Charter teams and Open teams will be split evenly throughout both races.
- As with all Monster Energy NASCAR Cup events, the 36 Charter teams are automatically locked into the Daytona 500.
- The final 4 positions for the Daytona 500 go to the two highest finishing Open teams in each Duel.

With Mitch on this one. For all the bitching and moaning we do about NASCAR, I still get excited for February @ Daytona.

You basically just described this year's Super Bowl.

But like it was said earlier, I still get excited for this time of the year. My mom used to let me stay home from school every year for the Twin 125's. I'm very interested to see those now that they award points again like way back in the day. First time in a LONG time we will have a points leader, actually co leaders, heading into the 500.

Maybe it's the fact my focus is on everything else, like work and family, but I completely forgot Speedweeks was a thing until a couple of days ago, and even then I didn't suddenly get real excited about it, I just thought "oh yeah, meh." Things have changed a bit.

Pumped for all of the short track racing going on over the next few weeks. Hoping that the World Series at New Smyrna is streamed again on FansChoice.

Just can't seem to get excited for the NASCAR races at Daytona though. Will be watching though, interested to see how a couple of former competitors run in the various series.

I just hope all of the races is good, clean & safe over these next few weeks.

Pretty pumped for this though, always a great start to the season for me

I'm out on Saturday though *kicks self*

I also has a problem with Daytona, as it's summer time here and don't wanna have to even think about saving the weekends for racing. They should only start on March man. But Daytona it's Daytona and I can always watch on torrents and what not....

totally know how you feel, but with the rolex 24, the wrc, and dakar being easier to stream this year i've been slowly getting warmed up. i've actually be hustling a little bit more with my work knowing that my productivity is about to go down a little, lol

The ARCA race is the only thing I care about this year...and I'll be going back and forth between it and a Preds game.

ARCA plate races are the worst. Cautions for blown tires, cautions for stupidity, caution periods take forever. At the end, it's single file around the yellow line with an outside line failing miserably to get something going.

I'll be at the 500 this year. Some family members have acquired a condo 10 miles from the track. Can't say no to an invite like that.
