Not condoning tax avoidance at all but I can't help but feel this mass coverage by the media is a convenient excuse to not cover other more "pressing" issues, National economies, the continuing devastating effect from the Fukishima Nuclear reactor disaster etc etc.

Yes its a major story but I wouldn't trust a lot of the media as far as I could throw them. I always ask myself "What are they NOT reporting on / trying to distract us from?" #GoodDayToBuryBadNews

Tax that is 'lawfully evaded' by the rich is a pretty big issue in the UK and has been for years now. If only the rich can get out of paying it, it's disproportionately harsh on everyone else.

That said, I think we actually have too many hot-button issues in the news right now. It's easy to hide your own bad news amongst everyone else's :(

In the era of "we're all in this together" and "living beyond our means" austerity, it is relevant news that the so-called Wealth Creators we are all encouraged to put our faith and dependence on are in fact, as most of us with half a brain knew, Wealth Hoarders with little interest in even trickle down benefits for those below.

That said, what GK says is probably about right. There's so many big issues that this one is a distraction from another one, and the destruction of the planet is probably the biggest long-term danger and the one that we never really end up talking about. Spain, for example, is in the middle of a historic drought ... but hey, flags. :flag:

but Lewis don't live in UK anymore, or british citizens must pay taxes for the queen even when they're living in Monaco or Switzerland?

Lewis himself doesn't, and that's why most British drivers end up leaving the UK. However, the fuss here is that the jet was purchased and registered in the UK, and VAT should have been paid on it as an import. He (or rather his tax people) avoided it by registering it through several shell companies, and in such a way that the money which did move around did so in such a way as to avoid the tax ended up back in his pockets.

The Guardian has a detailed (fairly lengthy) explanation of exactly how he did it. That's the stupidity of the situation; it's completely legal and transparent!

As an aside, his jet was de-registered in the UK in April this year. It is now registered in Austria, to a holding company owned by Niki Lauda.

that's what keep me wondering, tax havens always come up with mechanism to avoid taxing for resources that the country really needs, but is just like Flavio Briatore once said "taxes? I don't pay that, I'm a billionaire"

The queen and Prince Charles also feature in the Paradise papers just as much, so I doubt it'll make much difference to his knighthood prospects

It'll give them something to talk about at the ceremony.

Will McLaren insist on Renault making a "size zero" engine to suit their preference for a size zero car? Some believe that was one of the major issues between them and Honda in that Honda just couldn't build the engine small enough to fit satisfactorily in the chassis and not suffer with overheating, vibration issues etc.

The cooling and radiator requirements are also completely different, with Morris admitting that McLaren will simply rely on Renault's recommendations for the first year.

Looks like they will be more sensible.

We're relying on Lando Morris' comments?

Good Interview with Alexander Rossi on why a F1 car drives differently to other race cars and how difficult it would be for an Indycar driver to adapt.

I've grown to like them quite a bit since the teams started to incorporate them into the livery designs. I din't mind them and I think they visually balance the very long car.

Mclaren are heroes, ban the ugly things

Then ban pencil noses and stepped noses and anything else that ruins the look of these cars.

Says a lot when the 2017 rules came in to try and improve the visuals of the cars and aside from the extra width they look so much worse than the generation of cars that preceeded them, who at least had smooth bodywork.
