Don't know the guy, can't read the language but according to people on Reddit it says that Manor is close to being saved.

"There is an agreement to terms at Manor with an investor. Final signing should come next week to inform suppliers and go to Australia."

Wehrlein will flip it every race. And Maldonado will win it one time. #dreamteam

i don't know whether this is such a good thing.

Maybe some people think F1 won't be about generating profit when Bernie's gone.

I think it might become even worse.

F1 might suffer for it but motorsport as a whole will be better off.

my hope is that they will drop the financial model of squeezing the venues dry. they will definitely be about money, but they will probably be less dickish towards sponsors, venues, and media

We know how expensive it is for circuits to host GPs. This leads them to charge higher hire fees for lower level series, thus higher entry fees for the competitors and higher ticket prices for the fans. Silverstone is more expensive to attend than any other circuit in the UK, for example.

He has form for killing-off categories as well. He was involved in the promotion of the ETCC & WTCC in 1987, and entry fees increased immediately. International touring car racing only lasted one more season, after motoring along quite nicely for 25 years. Not to mention that he was one of those responsible for the death of Group C.

here is a good comprehensive article on some of the perceived negatives from bernie's tenure and how the new owners plan to change them

Ok, but at least we might get some options for watching a race if we don't have a cable or Sling, etc subscription. They might actually use the internet like IndyCar, IMSA, the WEC. But of course there will be some unsavory things. F1 won't ever be perfect anymore because it is big business, but I see Liberty bringing F1 back to the people, whereas it was moving solely towards the will of nameless investors and a select circle of team bosses.

Quote:
The existing state of F1

If they were not before the deal was made, Liberty are well aware now that the sport they are taking over could be in better condition.

Carey has been publicly quiet since Liberty bought the first tranche of its shareholding in September, but he has spent the time getting to know what the company that employed him has bought.

His findings were:

  • The revenue system is skewed in favour of the already rich and powerful, to the extent that the smallest teams are struggling to survive and money is tight for about half the grid.
  • There is a lack of competition on track.
  • Television audience figures are dropping in many markets - although this is largely because of a switch to pay television, to make more money from TV rights deals.
  • The longest-standing races are struggling to fund themselves and risk dropping off the calendar
  • The decision-making process is not working properly.
  • Some significant business and sporting decisions have been made for solely financial reasons, disregarding other important factors, such as their effects on the sporting side.
  • An acceptance that F1 has lost some of its appeal, particularly a sense of edge and drama and as an extreme driver challenge.

Liberty has decided to change much of that. The question is how.

This gives me some hope, at least they're aware and honest about F1's problems in a way the previous owners/Bernie never were. Doesn't mean they're going to fix anything, but it's something.

We are replacing Bernie with a man who's come primarily from the media (I read he was exec. VP of fox studios)

Which means he is going to make changes to the sport for the purpose of generating media.

Bernie was a maniac, but now we've got someone who's going to run F1 like a TV channel, not like a sport.

I was actually thinking similar things because Chase is an American media mogul under Murdoch. Just looking at that, I don't see any relation to Formula 1. He might be a sport fan, he might be the founder of Fox Sports but I feel that this is on a totally different level then someone from inside the F1 business. That might be, of course, good or bad and it might improve F1 in some respects but I feel that a person from the motorsport world might do different things.

The fact they've split Bernie's job into separate sporting and commercial management roles, and hired Ross Braun for the sporting role, is encouraging in that respect.

And Bernie came from motorsport but it's not like he's had competition, historic venues or the competitor's interests at heart the last few decades.
