looks like the drivers are having to lift a decent bit now, especially in turn 1.

Hope this means some good passing for the race

Teams having some trouble getting the cars to handle in traffic so far at Phoenix (not from dirty air, but rather mechanical grip)

hope they can figure out something to increase passing at Phoenix. I'm not holding my breath though. Even with the issues resolved the only place that seems like you could pass is turn #1

IndyCar uploaded some highlights of Day #1

I think more than aerodynamics, the key to good racing in short ovals, is a higher degradation tyre.

If anything, I would've thought the overall lack of grip will increase passing through the driver in front making a mistake. I doubt it's much help on the short ovals though.

Only if you can get close enough to take advantage of the mistake, if you can't get close enough because aero push is so bad, it won't mean shit how bad the leading car handles, NASCAR has had that problem for about 10 years and is yet to truly solve it either.

Of course us armchair experts know how to solve it, but we don't have letters after our names from MIT so they won't listen.

Folks, take a look at this:

MY QUESTION IS: Is there anybody here who still doubt IndyCar is the prettiest Racing series in 2018? If there's anyone who doesn't think that's the prettiest racing series this year, then you need medical help.

I don't really remember Phoenix being a huge pass-fest even in the height of the CART era.
You'd always read about drivers who were leading by multiple laps and hard crashes against the unforgiving walls rather than side by side racing, a track like that isn't going to let you get much of a draft from the cars in front

Most of the drama from Phoenix was mainly restart action.

it was more a challenge track than passing track, like Nazareth

RACER's test report video for Saturday afternoon (plus Friday night)

-

seems that adding a little bit of downforce could aid / be the short-term fix for the passing problem according to Bourdais in that video.

Have to wonder if IndyCar would look at using the road course boost levels to see if it would help too.

First accident in this weekend's test. Leist barely scrapped the turn #2 wall

That's it! I'm hard now. Best looking current race cars. Period. IMSA close behind.

Dixon on the hook right now. Unsure if it's from a accident or if the car stalled. Car was parked on the apron in the backstraight

Leist got into the wall again, was able to get it back into the pits on his own so still green.

It appears that Rahal got into the wall just slightly / whitewalled it within the last minute of practice.

Sato was quickest in the final session with a 189.85 MPH avg / 19.3790 (lap time)

Just saw Bourdais' new scheme. Holy shit, it looks like something straight out of late 90's/early 00's CART and I love it.

that scheme made a real great job by hiding the rear wheel guards

LOL there are no guards, will be interesting how well the drivers adjust after 5 years of being able to use them as bumpers.

Rahal ran a visor cam during one of the afternoon sessions this weekend.
