You appear to have missed the point. Brundle is criticising the rigidity of the halo design ('a crate' on the Spitfire as opposed to the bespoke solution that Mitchell came up with) and the timescale that the teams have been given to implement it (the FIA was late in providing the teams with the specifications they needed to design their own halos).

Paddy's interview is further illustration of the slapdash way that the halo has been rammed into the rulebook and I hope dearly that they have not overlooked anything in this process because if they have, it will be a driver who suffers for it.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

RTL (Netherlands) is reporting that Bobby K has finally put his mark on the contract Williams offered him before Mexico.

If that's true they should absolutely be running him this weekend.

I'm not sure they'd risk it - Stroll has never raced in Abu Dhabi and there's a tiny-but-mathematical chance that Toro Rosso could pip them in the constructors championship. Two 'new' drivers could make that chance slightly less tiny.

Kubica was slated to test for them after this GP anyway, wasn't he?

So, bit of fascinating trivia (to me at least): the driver with best ratio of poles over races entered isn't Senna, or even Hamilton. It goes like this:

Juan Manuel Fangio : 56.86 %
Jim Clark: 45.83 %
Alberto Ascari: 43.75 %
Ayrton Senna: 40.37 %
Lewis Hamilton: 34.95 %

Only, the first 4 did so in an era where pushing hard by yourself on the track (outside of any race conditions or collisions) could mean death.

Williams are denying a done deal, still in negotiations.

Quite an interesting ranking of F1 drivers by Felipe Massa,

He says Alonso is the number one, being the most complete. On the same level he put Schumacher and Hamilton. Vettel is number four, albeit at a lower level, followed by Max Verstappen.

Not really a surprise. Even if it is a done deal, I wouldn't think Williams would allow themselves to be bounced into confirming a driver by the press.

Much as it's a surprise (I had no idea!), I'm not sure poles in the era of Fangio and Ascari (and maybe even Clark) mean quite so much. I don't think it was properly timed until the 70s, and before this it was a) a practice session and b) mostly timed by the teams or drivers' wives.

Not meaning to take away from them, because the statistics don't lie, but it just doesn't seem quite like the qualifying that Senna was so good at, for example.

Useless stat I picked up the other day, I haven't checked but I think Jenson Button will be the first ever driver to classified first and last in the drivers standings in his career.

I had to check that one up, and it turns out Phill Hill finished last in the 1966 WDC, having only participated in the Italian Grand Prix where he failed to qualify.

What about Mansell? Or that was different since he finished one GP in 95?

Mansell had a 10th place finish, Verstappens best was 12th while Lavaggi never managed a finish.

Lavaggi retired in all races he took part in, so he classified lower in the standings, along with a few drivers with worse finishes than Mansells 10th place. :)

Edit: I'm a slow typer.

I'm lost, what do Verstappen and Lavaggi do in a conversation about first and last-place finishers at the championship?

edit: sorry, I'm slow too. They matter because they ruined Mansell's attempt at finishing last of an F1 championship in 1995. /cap obvious

I find it amusing the time gap from the poles achieved by Clark and other drivers at Nordschleife. sometimes reached 10 seconds

Américo Teixeixa Jr, the first journalist to confirm Massa's comeback, reported Kubica's signature on Nov. 14th. Let's wait and see.

2 new tyre compounds next year (Bringing the total to 8 Dry compounds) with Hyper-Soft & Super-Hard been the new additions

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/13322 ... 2018-range

I'd like to see them go back to the old A-H scale because it's easy to get that A is softer than D without having to have all this Hyper, Super, Ultra nonsense.... Well that or just go back to calling the 3 compounds they actually take to each race Soft, Medium & Hard & ditch all the extra name silliness.
