I still can't help but feel a bit sorry for Palmer. He's a great guy and he did have a shitload of bad luck, like listed here: http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/ ... cky-driver

Nevertheless, I think he should have performed better, but I feel bad that he has to go.

(new post because I keep breaking Twitter embeds...)

The only way this Kubica news makes sense is if he had a Renault deal for next year which has been steamrollered by the McLaren/STR/Sainz fuckery.

I have a feeling on Palmer, that I think he's not that bad of a driver, but was thrown into a team alongside high-rated drivers that constantly outpace him, which lead him to try to catch by going over the limit, and failing while doing so.

A stint in a backmarker car (and not a manufacturer team), would've helped him a lot. The 3 new (and now deceased) teams that were racing a few years ago, would've been the perfect fit for him.

There have been lots of drivers that were much useless than Palmer in F1.

Apparently, Renault had Kubica contracted from May for testing purposes, not for a race drive.

Why have Martini dictated that Williams has to have at least one driver of 25 years old? I mean OK I know they want to have some kind of responsible ethic in their marketing but if they are going to enforce an age limit shouldn't their requirement be that the driver be of the highest legal age that they sell products in? Eg 21 in the US. Why the arbitrary number of 25?

In an age where drivers coming to F1 are younger and younger and have been prepped and groomed for a long time (some almost a decade) this just makes no sense to a team like Williams. So let's just say that Ferrari say "hey Williams we want to give Charles Leclerc a good couple of years to learn at a more than average team, and are prepared to throw in some $$$ as well" Williams will have to say no dice, on a driver that has immense talent and who I would have no doubt would deliver stellar results for them.

It just doesn't make any sense. And let's say that Lance stays with them (and Martini are still the title sponsor till he is 25) Williams won't be able to get a young guy in the Max Verstappen mould for another 6 or so years? Or if Max says hey I want to race at Williams they will have to turn him down????

Oh...and lol face plant, so their most exposure this year was with a teenager who is below their requirements for an age imposed limit on the team.....

Kubica to Williams, that would be great. Palmer gone and Massa gone. That would be the day.

Palmer is useless. He can't handle any kind of pressure, he immediately starts over driving the car. The only reason he won GP2 is he was in his 4th year. And with only 4 wins in 22 starts. In front of rookie Stoffel.

Sure, he is not totally useless, but seriously, he brings nothing to F1. Taki Inoue at least was funny and Ricardo Rosset kept his car whole. Palmer has had more chances then he deserves. I doubt F1 would miss him.

To the Palmer-defenders: the guy needed 4 seasons to be successful in GP2 and never impressed. Before that he showed mediocre skill in Formula Palmer Audi and Formula 2, championships which where both managed by his dad...

I'd love to see Palmer and Chilton on the same team, then we can see who is the worst

Fuck it, add Charlie Kimball to make it a 3 car (indycar) team. He'd probably beat both of them...barely.

I don't think it's fair to compare Kimball to those two.

Well, let's see how McLaren salutes Honda in Japane GP. They will probably take engine penalties in Friday already, park it in the qualifying and then retire both cars before the half way point.

Porsche and McLaren for 2021 or McLaren makes their own engines once this engine spec era is over. Above all, I blame the FIA for making these engine rules in the first place and then not doing any quick fixes to even out the differences between the manufacturers. I'm sure had FIA changed one bit requested by Renault and one bit by Honda, things might be different. But no, let's kiss Mercedes' ass and change few things that Ferrari wants, but then even it out mid-season to favor Mercedes again.

Well McLaren have said they would be interested in making their own engines for if it's cost effective. So that'll be down to whether or not FIA stands for 'Fucking Idiots Again'...

McLaren making their own engines, as in "We'll put money on an independent engine builder and then badge it as our own"

Looking how close Red Bull and VAG are in other series I cannot see Porsche going anywhere else but Red Bull tbh. Unless its a customer deal.

edit: this rumor claims Porsche might even buy Red Bull: http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/opini ... ull-buyout

Well, we all remember how Honda used to bring 'qualifying bomb' engines to Suzuka...
