Quote:
Archer Capital bought a 65 per cent share in 2011 for a reported $180 million from Sports Entertainment Limited and Supercars team’s owners.

Although Archer Capital has put a $100m price tag on its stake, it is believed $70m-$80m was a more realistic valuation

Is this a typo in the article or have the owners taken a massive loss on their investment?

Yes, that does set off some alarm bells. Either the series has decreased in value or they bought it for too much in the first place, or a combination of those two factors.

Whatever happens, it's going to be interesting to see what happens to the series over the next couple of years.

Judging by this article the majority of the Holdens will still be V8-powered VFs next year:

It looks like it will be another wet weekend at Winton (actually all of Victoria, NSW and most of Queensland will be in for weather this weekend, if not other states as well, there is a huge band of cloud over Australia right now.)

Douglas will also be back in the LDM rent-a-drive car, to the surprise of no one.

There will also be three extra cars this weekend, with Macauley Jones in the car I posted a pic of a posts back, James Golding in a third GRM Holden (#31) and Shae Davies in a Matthew White-entered Nissan (#26).

Very poor journalism in that case, without that paragraph the rest of the article sounded like everything was fine in Supercar land. At least there are bidders for it so there's still some value

The series won't die, it's just going to lose its big-$$ status and return to being the regional touring series it was in the 80s, which IMO is a good thing. Hopefully a few kicks in the arse for Warburton and Supercars will stop them doing conceited shit like Super 5000.

I feel if it loses its big $$ status it won't return to being what it was, ever. Motorsport just isn't popular anymore.

V8SC deserves to be boycotted for that Super 5000 stuff. That's beyond a fucking joke, worst of the worst. I hope they get sued to high hell.

I'm hoping CAMS steps in and does something about it.

It might be wishful thinking but whatever happens I hope one of the F5000 concepts catches on in a big way, even if it's the Super 5000 idea which rubs me the wrong way as well. Certainly I hope they can get a sustainable series going, high power open wheelers are what this country's domestic racing scene is missing.

Sadly CAMS won't do a fucking thing IMO, I doubt they have anywhere near the amount of balls (or stupidity, some would say) necessary to go against the other group that has a near monopoly on Australian motorsport.

...

Incidentally it is very wet at Winton today, almost as much as it was at Symmons Plains. Cars are firing off left right and centre in the practice session being held right now. Percat just spun driver's side first into Pye at the first corner (luckily not heavily), while Holdsworth and Davies went off behind them. Rullo then flew off at turn 1 and ended up behind the old pit area. Half the field must have fired off at different times by now.

First race of the weekend (Formula Ford, they're back on the support card for the first time since 2013) and there's already a pileup at the first turn with one car landing on top of the other.

Nice move by Williams in the TCM, he made it three wide for the lead and went from third to first in the process.
