The drivers want something in place next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the question is posed like "do you want die from debris or do you prefer a protection?"
And what about GP2, GP3, F3 and other drivers? Do they also want halo?
Anyway, I've written my lengthy opinion months ago already. This isn't the right topic for that.

FP2 going on in sunny conditions.

Kvyat Spun and broke his wing.

At this rate I don't see him seeing out the year.

Ted Kravitz: "It's advantage Hamilton already in FP2!"

Oh fuck off Ted. It's practice, it probably won't result in any kind of grid penalty and in all likelyhood we'll return to Nico on pole and dominating a boring racing tomorrow. Jesus Christ, rain it in man

Tired of Sky's shit, anyone got a C4 stream?

Ok, but what's the hurry? A couple of years here and there. If it takes 10 years to design the perfect solution, then wait 10 years. It's not like the risk of a tyre hitting the driver have increased. In fact, thank to the wheel tethers it's smaller than ever.

Martin Brundle has made the point a few times that now that we have seen the halo they almost have to introduce it because if they don't & something happens which the halo would have prevented then there would be a lot of questions been asked as to why they didn't do something when they had something that they could have used to improve the safety in that area.

This also works if there is a serious accident caused by the rushing in of the halo too. Including vision blocking ones.

I can't believe how bad it looks, this will turn a LOT of people off the sport.
If this is coming in at least make it astheticly pleasing as well as safe.
I'm not a fan of the concept because this is an open cockpit sport with all the risks that belies, but at least the Red Bull concept looked better.

Everytime they've brought up Nasr's radio he's been crying about something.

Something to consider with the halo is that when we have seen on the Ferrari is only an interim version of Ferrari's own design which by all accounts isn't what the final version will be.

The one Ferrari have run has been chunky carbon fiber while the final version will apparently be much sleeker (Closer to the Mercedes renders) & made out of titanium.

Personally speaking I don't like the halo, I wasn't even keen on the aeroscreen & would prefer things to remain as fully open cockpit like what we have currently. However i'm going to wait & see what the 'final' version looks like before making a proper judgement & to be honest I think regardless I think were all just going to have to accept it as I don't think any amount of fan criticism is going to stop them bringing it in & I also don't think F1 is going to be the only category to do it (I've seen suggestions Indycar may have something similar for 2018).

It looks terrible and is one of the weakest solutions to the problem (it doesn't stop small parts, may restrict vision, and could even deflect debris towards the driver if it flew in from the side).

I do understand the need for something, but surely a strong screen would be more effective, look far better, and not restrict vision?

If it includes the hinges the Mercedes design has they might as well not introduce it

Vettel has said that visibility wasn't great with the halo on the car:

During qualifying there will be a zero tolerance policy about track limits at Copse, Stowe and Club.

Quote:
“Further to the discussion in the drivers meeting yesterday evening I would like to confirm that we will again be adopting a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to cars leaving the track at turns 9, 15 and 18 during qualifying.”

“Unless we are satisfied that a driver left the track at these points for reasons beyond his control, having been forced off the track for example, every lap time achieved by leaving the track will be deleted in accordance with Article 12.3.1.d of the Sporting Code.”

“During the race, and in accordance with Article 27.4 of the Sporting Regulations, any driver who is judged to have gained a clear and lasting advantage by leaving the track will be reported to the stewards. Similarly, under the same Article, any driver who repeatedly leaves the track will be reported to the stewards for not having made every reasonable effort to use the track.”
