Unless Rosberg has re-discovered his pre-Monaco form, we may still have that battle ;)

Ummm...you're not seriously thinking that Lewis can't work his way from 10th to 2nd, no? Mercedes pace is way better, it's going to be a one stop race and with on DRS detection point for two long zones, he can easily take lesser cars. He's not going to make mistakes for two days in a row.

I'm inclined to agree.

Within 9 laps, we should be able to see Hamilton in second. That is in theory, but I feel the real thing won't be far off.
If he then manages to beat Rosberg, it is going to be a massive blow to the German - as people will say he can't even win a gifted GP.

Unless he crashes at the start, Hamilton will just blast by on those straights

According to Williams data, Bottas hit 371 km/h moments before passing Verstappen in Quali.

That's the world record speed for F1, beating Kimi Räikkönen's 370,1 km/h at Monza 2005.

371 km/h on a street course! I laughed at the idea of F1 going over 340 km/h on a bumpy street course with high downforce wings. I'll gladly take it back. And these Hybrid-V6's ain't junk, even though they're quiet.

Bottas' speed on the s/f measuring point was 366,1 km/h but he still got faster after that.

All this said, 2017 rule change seems stupid if they end up slower due increased drag.

assuming Mercedes can't start properly, battle for the lead could get interesting

In order to get to P2, Hamilton has to keep his nose clean. You're assuming that he has a completely clean start. Lap 1 is going to be a shit show and Lewis tends to get himself into all sorts of trouble when he starts in the midfield.

Yeah and how easy one can lock the wheels under braking here. We'll see some climbing the field, locking a wheel, having to hit reverse and do it all again. Probably Hamilton one of those.

Also probably a sc for a crash on turn 15....

Pirelli says a 1 stopper is the way to go today.

maybe a bit of randomness - but hey, I've got to honour my membership tagline:

Baku used to be part of the Russian Empire (under Tsarist rule). It was known as "The Black City" - renowed for its oil industry.

Baku was also one of the main goals of Hitler during Operation Barbarossa, obviously for its oil and thus supplying his army. The city was then the capital of the Azerii Soviet Socialist Republic.
Thankfully, the diversion from Moscow to the Caucasus oil fields, together with Stalingrad, made for a critical turning point in the Second World War.

Until they start cutting their tires or flat-spoting them.

378 km/h for real? 8O

Race will either be insanely great or a huge dissapointment after a great build up during the whole weekend.

Cool feature on Sky, They had a glasses camera with an eye tracking system on Nico Hulkenberg to track where drivers look as there driving round a track:

Seriously though, can we take a break for 5 minutes from trying to find things in F1 to bitch about? Just try and enjoy a new track that looks like it might throw some unpredictability into the sport for once.

Wow who cares

2,000 people in a grandstand

100,000,000 are watching on TV

It doesn't matter

it's used more and more this thing of using mixed colors seats on grandstands in stadiums and circuits and so on to visually hide the fact that less and less people can afford or care about watching sport events live. it's quite sad indeed
