Not necessarily - the 2015 pole time (1:26.3) was faster than the 1:27.6 the fastest Jordan managed in 2003.

The race in 2015 was also 3 minutes quicker than the 2003 race.

I think you're better off with the 2004 cars, those records usually still stand on most tracks.

The the Jordans would be even slower - 1:28.1 for Heidfeld in qualy. Pantano finished 3 laps down on a race time of 1:24:15, so probably around the 1:30:0 for him to complete all 58 laps. Maybe a little quicker than the current cars but not massively so. And a hell of a lot less reliable.

Bear in mind that the 2015 race had a safety car and 2004 did not.

Considering the amount of times the car broke down during races, I doubt that.

I don't know if I want the Toro Rosso to perform well this year. As much as the boys deserve to fight for podiums and wins, there's only so many cars at the front and gaps are usually longer, leading to less opportunities for aggressive/spectacular moves compared to midfield.

I'd still rather watch a race with 20 Jordans fro 2003 than 20 cars with ERS and MGU-h

Meh, 2003 wasn't exactly a vintage year...

Edit/ although it did contain the 2003 British GP, which was an epic :flag:

I kind of miss the court case from last year's thread. That was fun.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Despite not being a classic season it was a breath of fresh air versus 2002 (and then 2004...). There were some great races:

Australia
Brazil
Monaco
Silverstone
Germany
Hungary
USA
Japan

Arguably Spain and Italy were also pretty good.

I'd also add Canada to the pretty good race list. Those cars were fast with very low downforce setup, and even Alonso managed to get upfront and fought for the last podium step. Plus that rainy Q1, Kimi's off in Q2, Montoya's spin at the end of lap 1 or 2, Barrichello's front wing shenanigans, the stress on the first round of pitstops, Kimi's wandering tire, flying bargeboards, etc. IIRC, that also was a milestone win for Schumacher, although I don't specifically remember the actual achievement. He set the fastest top speed though, over 348 km/h. Good times !

2003 was one of my favorite years, the championship battle was the best.

Love the home grand prix as it's the only one I can really give somewhat accurate weather details about. Usually what ever hits Melbourne Airport(where I live) his Melbourne about 20 mins later. The brunt of these thunderstorms will only really be around early morning, might be some rain sticking around for FP1 and FP2. The V8 race will be interesting. Qually not so much rain being an issue but more the light as it's going to be very cloudy. Race day fine and sunny.

Why do people think that Mercedes are going to not win the championship this year? The technical rules have barely changed this year, just some small sporting reg changes. And for a team to win 16 races each of the last 2 years to all of a sudden fall from grace just 'aint happening.

Where do people think that? If Ferrari has progressed, they may very well challenge them on a few victories, a complete fall from grace can't be expected for sure. I am mostly hoping that Rosberg can keep his momentum from end of last year and give a challenge to Hamilton, even if his pure talent does not seem to be a match.

And accidents happen! Especially at Melbourne
There used to be a mandatory Turn 5 crash every year at least, I hope the trend continues.

I keep seeing articles about Ferrari being close and having stuff up their sleeve.

Mercedes only showed their speed once in testing and they were faster on mediums than a car behind on softs.
