In most cases, you can rely on Bernie's token stupid idea being used to force the teams' hands on some other kind of change.

The 3 part qualifying process worked from its first race 10 years (!!!) ago, why change it? I guess they want to find a way to get the Mercedes cars off the front of the grid, to make a better race.

Leave it as it is.

What in the fucking fuck? Qualifying WAS NOT THE PROBLEM! So someone gets booted out every 90 seconds after 7 minutes...sure gonna be a lot of blocking penalties going on with basically every car on track.

So what's going to happen if a driver is still on a hot lap? Stiff shit, you're out? Cause if they let them complete it, well it's going to be longer than 90 seconds each time isn't it because multiple drivers will be on laps.

Also sure hope they will be allocating more tyres, and expect slower lap times as these rules basically dictate that cars have to be running on track all the time.

I now liken F1 to the 45 year old woman who once was a head turner now trying to compete with the 20 somethings and going all out and resorting to desperate make over measures in order to stay young and relevant again. Or the late 40s guy who has a mid life crisis and leaves his wife and kids, buys a Corvette, runs off with the young intern, gets dumped for some young hunk and is left alone , broken and pissed everything all away.

And every week fans will vote one driver off the island. This driver must pack his stuff and move into the big brother house.

They're now considering removing the fuel limit, to try to stop lift-and-coast nonsense

So the FIA has gone full retard and now suddenly believes that everyone who watches F1 is a pre pubescent teen with a 5 minute attention span. They will be disappointed as this sudden demographic (that Bernie now suddenly believes in????) won't even finish watching these dire races.

http://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/148 ... -day-award

I don't quite know how to articulate my feelings over the qualifying rules and this, but it goes something like this.

I feel like a great dear old friend in an attempt to be cool and relevant has come around to my home, yelled at me, my wife and kids, taken a dump on my carpet, punched me in the dick, tipped over a vase and taken a selfie while doing it because I didn't "like" his new tattooed sleeve on myspace.

Just read that FIA want to bring the Halo protection in 2017. If yes ill stop collecting f1 car models 2017 onwards cuz its ugly. This is not the solution for the sport. Motorsport will always be dangerous. And theyll never remove that thing from the sport. Cuz every driver in the world accepts when doing motorsport he can die.
A closed cockpit like the red bull x1 fantasy car would be the thing that they need if they want full protection.
Remember what happened to Massa 2009 in Hungary. The halo protection if it was back then on the car wouldnt stop the spring smashing Felipes helmet.

I don't think it's very surprising that the QLF will see some changes. The formant, in my opinion, a darn good one, hasn't been really changed for too long. F1 is known for some shit rule changes and QLF has been untouched for quite a while so here we go I guess. I personally think it's crap. I understand to kick out one driver/some drivers after a certain amount of time but every 90s, that's a pretty bad joke.

One wonders whether this is the normal Bernie ruse to get something else done or whether they have actually gone fully nuts, eiter way I suspect Ted may have issues with his pass not working next time he goes to enter the paddock

I presume you guys realise the Q1, Q2, Q3 stuff and the breaks between is done solely for TV so they can run ads during the breaks and not while there's on track action?

Apparently that was suggesting he'd shut down F1 & form GP1 if the teams failed to agree on engine supply rules.

Even though that's about as likely to happen as Red Bull and STR were leaving at the end of last year...

Pat Symmonds talking to Ted Kravitz about the new qualifying format:

Quote:
You have to decide what qualifying is about. An hour's entertainment on Saturday or is it about trying to make the race better on Sunday. I think this new procedure is not going to affect Saturday because there was nothing wrong with Saturday... In fact arguably it might even be a bit worse, But it might mix the grid up for Sunday.
