I wonder what needs to happen for NASCAR to get rid of the Chase? A winless driver winning the Cup due to an intentional wreck on title-bound Jooyner? Any better ideas?

It's actually some of the best racing in NASCAR at the moment, IMO. Especially when it's Kyle-free.

From what it sounds like Kyle Busch might not run any Truck races next year.

Joonyer wins 35 of 36 races, finishes 2nd at Homestead, loses the Championship.

Can they even find 16 full time drivers?

I think they can very easily find that many. Here is what I know of or am pretty certain of for next year.

-Kyle Busch Motorsports
Christopher Bell
William Byron

-Red Horse Racing
Timothy Peters
Ben Kennedy (?)

-Brad Keselowski Racing
Tyler Reddick
Daniel Hemric

-GMS
Spencer Gallagher
Johnny Sauter

-Thorsport Racing
Matt Crafton
Cameron Hayley (?)

-AM Racing
Austin Wayne Self (highly likely, I think)

-JR Motorsports
Cole Custer

-Anthien Motorsports
Jon Wes Townley

-NEMCO Motorsports
John Hunter Nemechek

Also Dalton Sargent might be in the #5 truck full-time. Lira might be running 2 trucks next year. Mason Mitchell Motorsports wants to run a full-time team in the trucks next year. AM Motorsports would like to run 2 trucks. Thorsport might run 3 trucks again like in recent years. I think the truck series is looking very competitive going into next year.

I'm surprised NASCAR has taken this long to use the feeder series as guinea pigs to test out hair-brained ideas to use in the Cup Chase.

Yes, it needs more short tracks.

The Trucks were never designed to be run on big tracks, they only run them because that's where the money is.

Look at the 1998 schedule, short tracks galore, some which either don't exist or are lying in ruins

Nashville Fairgrounds, now that's one that needs a race

I'm hoping they haven't released the truck schedule yet cause it will look so different that it does now. I mean are there any other ovals besides Iowa that are stand alone tracks with no Cup dates anymore?

NASCAR needs to hail marry the shit out of the Truck schedule and cut out all the speedway races. Sorry Daytona and Dega. Go to any decent short oval and road course they can.

And trash the fuck out of those stupid splitters. Fuck those things.

Another thing about 1998 - the championship was decided by 3 points only :8:

And there in lies the big issue with NASCAR. There's not really a good short track that can hold races for any of the big three touring series, and any track that could, has basically died (Memphis, Nashville, Millwaukee, etc.....etc...) or has since been outgrown by the sport (IRP, Myrtle Beach, Hickory, SoBo)

Who's to say the tracks have been outgrown by the sport? Attendance is faltering. Ratings are low. When was the last time you saw 100,000 fans at a Truck race, or even 50,000? It's been a while. Track promoters don't even release attendance figures anymore.

There's no reason to believe an awesome Truck race - or even an XFinity race - can't be held at a place like IRP or Myrtle or Hickory or South Boston. There were maybe more people at an ostrich race or an Indianapolis Indians game than there were at the last XF race at Indy.

Yet, if you put an XF or a Truck race at a place like Hickory, you might bring the fans in. Convince Kyle Busch or Dale Junior (or both) to put one of the local heroes in their cars like the track champion. How can they do against the best from the XF or Truck series? That alone might bring fans in - the prospect of one of their local, homegrown talents beating out some of the best in the sport.

From there, that talent might have acquired enough attention to be hired by one of the top teams. Maybe he makes it to Cup.

You've killed more than a few birds with one stone right there. You've discovered new talent. You've produced great racing. You've raised a track's profile by having its local talent make it to the top. You've got a great show, and you give fans a new driver to cheer for.

Right. 20,000 full seats always looks better than 35,000 at a 250,000 seat track. It looks better for the track promoter, the series, and for television. Look no further for this than the NASCAR races at Indianapolis since 2008.

NASCAR and track promoters can try to explain that away all they want, but the reality is, it looks bad and sponsors aren't going to be too excited about putting their name on a car in a race in front of mostly-empty grandstands.

You can't tell me this

doesn't look better than this

in any way, shape or form.
