To be honest, he always kind of looked as if he was under influence of something.

"Cocaine derivative". Obviously no one taking it the usual way would be driving even half as good as he did.

Now we know why he didn't know how turn 1 worked in Monaco.

When they say 'derivative of cocaine', what does that actually mean? I guess for years he's been thinking he was squeaky clean.... considering the amount of washing powder that's gone up his nostrils... ;)

I've heard of "substitute of cocaine" in certain circles. Allegedly, it was a substance that has the same effects as cocaine without the addition (kids reading this: that's bullshit. Any chemical having an effect on your brain can and does develop addiction)

Well the whole story is sad, but I give him credit for coming clean about it. It was after he knew this last test would come positive, but props for not denying it and making a fool of himself like many athletes did and still do.

That's debatable, cocaine is a stimulant, like nicotine and caffeine, so are it's many deritives. Taken in the correct quantities would improve reaction times etc. There are only two ways to take it, nose or mouth, so he took it the usual way.

I've never taken it myself, just so you know, my knowledge comes from an old friend who became addicted to it in the 90's and now spends his time in a persistent vegative state as a result.

, he only admitted it after being caught, OK he didn't deny it like some MP or banker would, but there's nothing honerable in being sorry after you've been caught lol.

It's not like he's the first. You "tolerant" people are being a bit harsh and quick to vilify him.

If you want to play the game, you follow the rules, there are really no excuse for not doing so, it's not like he was caught with one too many ibuprofen in his system, he admitted to doing a synthetic version of cocaine, and doing it for a while.

You kids and your 'ah you're being too hard, don't be so judgemental' shit make me laugh, tbh if I were the fia I'd be more concerned as to how he managed to dodge the system for so long than what he was taking.

This.

I wonder too how many other people have been / are exploiting and dodging the system, like we've seen in cycling.

Drug tests are done by random, maybe he's just been strangely lucky not to have been tested until then?

I'd expect more, just with stuff harder to detect like it had in cycling. Bound to be plenty of it in other sports as well. Win at all costs and all that.

And we're not being harsh, taking a drug and racing is beyond stupidity. In NASCAR, didn't Aaron Fike admit to driving while under influence of heroin. Or was that someone else?

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

tbh I had little idea what I was talking about but I didn't mean just from what hole it ended up in his body but also the amount and how and where, clearly he took it in somewhat controllable manner.

I think in racing doping use might not have so huge impact overall, but testing is probably also very neglected and I get the feeling the series if not FIA too themselves just want to sweep the whole issue under the carpet. Easy to say "no scandals" and keep the clean image when there is little or no testing in the first place (see PEDs in NBA and NHL).

in 2011 there was a huge polemic involving Tarso Marques, because the brazilian motorsports authority didn't said nothing about his use of steroids, because they didn't wanted to see doping in motorsports. the press found out and it was something very big

That's pretty awesome tbh :please

If the fia are going to butcher the corner like that might as well use it to the full extent of the modifications.

Might as well do drugs to improve performance if the drug test are rare and random.

Sure...we'll have two f1 series....one for clean drivers and one extreme one for those who can take whatever substances they seemed necessary.

I'd watch it.
