I think the biggest mistake, image-wise, was to call this 'Formula' E, because, it inevitably draws comparisons to F1. The cars are apparently comparable in speed to Formula Ford, which isn't the worst, but I guess it will become much more exciting as the technology progresses due to the obscene amount of torque they'll end up with.

I don't agree with that.
I think that calling that series "Formula" is a reference to F1, which is a good point.

I don't think it is a reference, formula is a an English word and the definition is not "a single-seater", but for sure draws these pointless comparisons to F1, which are a bit damaging, as they're not rivals and won't ever be but also helpful because the press FE has gotten so far would probably be a lot less with a more obscure name and without FIA involvement.

I just LOVED the race. I know engine noise looks weird....but I loved it. I'm already a hardcore fan.

It won't compete with F1: F1 is F1 while F-E is F-E, two different concepts. The only things I didn't like was the fact they swapped cars in the middle of the race and the fact there's only street courses.

But it will improve with time.

I do think that while they are by no means great, pace wise, most of the cars weren't running around at full pace anyway because they were concerned about battery life, being the first race and all.

You could feel a step up in the entire field with about 5 laps to go, etc, when Heidfeld suddenly started honing in on Prost and a couple of other battles developed, almost as if they realised "shit, these things ARE going to last to the end...", stopped conserving and really stepped on it

Race itself was probably only a 6/10 but damn, for a first ever effort that's pretty good.
Remember how stupid A1GP or GP2 looked in their first races with multiple stallers or amature driving really holding them back?
Yes, Prost was stupid but it was more in a last corner desperation kind of way, not some of the stupid things we saw in other series early races. (heck, lets face it, most of us thought there'd be multiple failures on the first lap and a lot more reliability issues than we saw...)

I hope this series truly will become a leader in electric technology. I reallllly hope the spec series stuff is just the initial phase and it will open up to allow teams to develop their own powertrains and chassis in the future.
It's not perfect now, but as a start, it'll do.

To be honest, I think its status as the pinnacle of electric racing is pretty much assured, unless Elon Musk decides to start his own :P

I watched race this morning, i was quite suprised how entertaining race was, just wish there would be maybe little more power and then just few laps shorter.
But what made me look like this: :slaphead: was Prost at last corner, soon as he weaved across the track i was shouting WTH! and my first though was that Nick was ok, that was hard shunt. :flag:

...actually, maybe they should consider asking Tesla for a partnership of some kind - the Roadster has comparable acceleration to 60mph, but a higher top speed and hugely better range, in a car that weighs three times as much.

I do hope McLaren are studying Tesla's open-sourced patents.

That impact with Prost/Heidfeld...wow, you can see all the energy & retardation go through the car a soon as it hits the Tek-Pro barrier...

Watching the re-broadcast right now. It's kinda fun, but I absolutely hate the random music bed that they keep putting it. It's fucking excruciating.

LOL at the "Safety CARRRR!!!" noise. Someone said that was very Ridge Racer, and I agree. I like this so far.

What's his justification?

He said he was going straigth and heidfeld hit him on his left front. I stopped listening to that lunatic after that

Btw, is it me or do these suspensions seem really fragile?[/quote]
Did Senna break his suspension on a kerb at the start? I can't see how else he broke the left front as he was on the inside of the corner

Formula E plans European double-header event for 2015

An additional race at one of the final Formula E events in Europe could bring the all-electric series back to its original schedule of 10 rounds.

Series boss Alejanadro Agag revealed in Beijing last weekend that plans to replace the cancelled Rio di Janeiro race, previously scheduled for Hong Kong, have been abandoned and that he is now considering turning one of the three European races at the end of the season into a two-day double-header meeting.

"I can confirm that we will not go to a 10th city, so we have two options," he said.

"We can stay with nine races, which for the first year is perfectly okay; or we can make one of the final three races a double-header, so one race on Saturday and one on Sunday.

"It is not confirmed, but we are discussing it with the FIA."

Was Formula E's debut a success?

Agag's plan would mean a two-day meeting, rather than the quick-fire one-dayers on which Formula E has hung its hat, in May in either Monte Carlo or Berlin or in June in London.

Formula E has plans to increase the number of races for season two in 2015/16, Agag said.

"For sure we will go higher: we are already planning at least two additions for year two," he explained.

hopefully 2 rounds in berlin, but i guess it will be 2 in london

Heh, they're gonna run a shorter version of Monaco (good plan!), which reminds me of the WRC special stage they had there once (I think it was): http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/115918

It also reminds me of the Riviera stage in Sega Rally 2, to a degree!

I reckon a track round Paris would be pretty nice. F1 never managed to crack the Paris market, maybe Formula E could.

Those batteries would explode if they tried to push the cars up that hill too many times, no surprise they're gonna skip that part then
