And it would ruin one of the rare duels this year.
IMO, Rosberg losts more by ruining his tyre, than gaining anything by cutting the chicane.

During a Suzuka race back in early 2000s, Williamses (Montoya or Ralf) were penalized for "cutting the last chicane and gaining time advantage" even without gaining position.

It's a rule and it will be enforced. He scored the fastest lap and didn't even tried to lift off while cutting.
