I'm betting it will be a wet race since they're holding it on March 8th and Brasilia is reasonably wet that time of year.

If they're really hosting an Indycar race there, I hope they have some sort of renovation/repaving plans in the works. The track looks like a total dump. And possibly crime-ridden.

MOTOGP was returning to that track this season (cancelled, but still). So I assume they have upgraded the facilities, or at least busy with that?

Paul Tracy will be doing commentary for 6 of the NBCSN races this year.

I guess the one's where Wally Dallenbach will be doing the TNT Nascar coverage as he's done the past few years.

annnnd hopefully tv coverage will "attempt" to interview him this year. i realized he didnt exactly steal the spotlight last year but come on! considering he's a former winner, the amount of screen time or even talking about him they did last year was pathetic.

Perhaps because that was, er, kind of a win with an asterick. A driver (and team) who previously was a backmarker in CART that never showed that much potential (and never showed that much potential after the merger either, mind you) all of a sudden winning the "greatest spectacle in auto racing", with much of the top level talent not being there. When you look at the field of drivers in 1996 (many of them who were, er, downright *awful* from a champ-level perspective, far worse than Buddy), it kind of tarnishes things.

It was the split. A time in open wheel racing that should be remembered with a bit of awkwardness and embarrassment.

(It's a bit unfair on Buddy Lazier, unfortunately. I don't think he's a terribad driver, TBH. But he's not as good as "1996 Indy 500 winner" should mean...)

The fact that he had his hand hurt and it showed him stretching it during each yellow may add to the fact. It`s just nice to see a comeback.

Uh how about the fact that he was the first winner in a new era for the Indianapolis 500... Luyendyk set the record, the Menard's cars were fast, and Buddy walked away with the win after a great battle with Davy Jones to cap off a grueling 500 miles with a broken back and arms that were going numb. The 500 is the 500... and he won it. There is no asterisk next to his picture on the Borg Warner trophy. The man earned it just like everyone else did. Also to say a driver and team who didn't show much potential after the merger.. Buddy went on to be the champion of the IRL in 2000 and was tied with Scott Sharp with the most wins for a while. He is still a former 500 champion and should be treated as such, not swept under the rug and forgotten.

The actual merger occurred in 2008. But the first year I consider CART and IRL merged in "all but name" was 2003, which was exactly when Buddy and several other IRL drivers experienced a drop-off in the standings. As far as the "new era for the Indianapolis 500", it is the era that caused most American race fans to tune out and watch NASCAR.

Personally I don't get a lot out of old drivers trying to re-enter racing after being out so long. Good for them I guess, but I predict Buddy Lazier's success will be exactly the same as Paul Tracy's. :p

That's because the big teams with the big money came over. The smaller teams like Hemelgarn couldn't keep up.

Laziers last full season was 2002.

He was mentioned as still being part of the team during the race broadcast but I don't recall hearing anything from him.
