Reading that the way to miss out on getting to F1 was to be killed, go to America/be American and stay there or, em, test for Jaguar.

In Darios case, he was the first victim of the Mercedes/McLaren development program which killed the careers of Paffet and Green.

Quote:
"That test went pretty well and two years later – after I'd already committed to CART in America – McLaren called with the offer of becoming its F1 test driver. I'd have tested during the week, and flown back and forth to race in America. At the time, I just didn't see it working. So, much to Norbert [Haug]'s amazement – and probably Ron [Dennis]'s too – I said no.

He was shipped to America by Mercedes after ITC/DTM died, being under contract with them for the 1997 season. Put in the Hogan car. Had he became a McLaren test driver then he'd have had 4-5 years under DC and Mika really, then would've have gotten the seat because Kimi showed up. In reality, his career reads like Gary Paffets, but he got out of the Mercedes development program when he joined Green for 1998.

The Jaguar test comment was hilarious.

I was at the Jaguar test and I remember how much of a farce it was back then. It was embarrassing how Jaguar treated Dario, but then again they never had any intention of signing him anyway. Which is why the test went the way it did.

NASCAR would throw a 10 lap yellow for such massive debris...

Keep it going now...

BTCC would simply penalise Honda, even if it found the stick on a MG

British F3 wouldn't have any problem, because there aren't enough cars to pick up the stick

World Series By Renault would see Martin Haven go on a 3-hour long rant about fans littering while attending racetracks.

The Speed (now NBC) team would ignore the stick and simply talk about all the clag forming just off the racing line and how it is detrimental to overtaking in F1.

The TBK forum would take a good joke and use the stick to beat it to death.

I'm impressed at how someone might have actually thrown that thing onto the track. Has anyone tried throwing one of those? They are not very conductive for throwing.

Regarding the autosport article...

Bird Clemente might be the most Brazilian name of all time.
