I was there, and it was awesome. The crowd LOVED Norm, Dave Blaney, Kenny Wallace and Schrader. I'm kinda sad Blaney didn't get a better finish. The facilities made Toledo Speedway seem like a big track in comparison...but the few vendors they had were acceptable. Bathrooms had a massive line, though, and it probably didn't help that the place was absolutely packed to the brim. It was a lot of fun, and I saw most of the track from Row 4 in turns 3-4. I'd hope for some trackside improvements before next year.

I think a race on the 1 mile tracks in Springfield or DuQuoin in Illinois would be interesting.

Traffic was, as expected, pretty awful getting out of the parking lot and I didn't get to actually fall asleep in my bed until 5am (though I did sleep in the car on the way home while my buddy Corey drove, my neck is still sore since I forgot to bring a pillow). I am dragging bigtime at work today. But that's okay because that was REAL RACIN' AS FUCK. One of the best races I've ever been to! Really hope they go back next year, and maybe even add a second dirt track to the schedule. (Also this was my girlfriend's first race, and she had a really good time, so that's good for me!) Also, it was so cool to look out at the grandstands and see them filled to the brim and people standing in the back and sitting on the grass on hillsides. Even if it was "only" 20,000 people it still is great to see a racetrack that actually is packed to capacity. It really adds to the atmosphere.

Its safe to say the first CWTS race at Eldora was a resounding success. No question they'll be back next year.

That was beyond awesome. More dirt please. Hell, even Clint Bowyer said to Tony, "Do we have to go back? Can we just stay here and do this?" Amen.

Cup cars on dirt? I think it's been proven now that NASCAR on dirt can be done, done well, and not be the clusterfuck we all thought it might be. Here's how to fix Bristol everyone.

Dirt's for racing, asphalts for getting there. I'd really like to see what they could do on a tacky fast track with slightly better rubber.

If I could, I would definitely fly out there for next years race. I also give SPEED and NASCAR kudos for doing a lot of dirt track promoting thoughout the telecast. Segments where they flat out told you to go to your local dirt track. My buddy (not a huge NASCAR fan) texted me last night, told me he was watching, and now wants us to go to Lebanon Valley asap. I think this also shows a race or 2 on a Wednesday night during the Summer would be great. What a great race. Still can't get over it.

So then NASCAR, did it pass the test?

Plz bring all your series here again, and cover Bristol in Dirt for one of its dates Maybe Martinsville too, again for one of its dates.

Hopefully we just witnessed the birth of a new tradition, and not a one off experiment.

As long as there's not too many, then the uniqueness of the event get's destroyed.

One, maybe two, a year, if you make every second race a dirt race, people will get bored by the fourth event.

I was more interested in watching the dirt latemodels in the background during the pre-race stuff than the pre-race stuff itself

As far as putting dirt on Bristol again, please don't. There's so many better actual dirt tracks to go to. It was just a marketing deal when they did it.

It got a rating of 1.2 and was the tenth highest rated truck race on SPEED. Was expecting it to be the highest rated ever TBH..

Sounds like NASCAR wants to do it again next year.

Quote:
NASCAR wants to return to Eldora: NASCAR officials deemed Wednesday night's inaugural Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway enough of a success to warrant strong consideration to keep the dirt track owned by Tony Stewart a part of the schedule in 2014. "Felt it over-delivered on everything they'd done,'' NASCAR vice president Steve O'Donnell said Thursday. "Terrific turnout, really happy with how the competitors performed all night, so all in all, a great night for NASCAR and the sport. "We'll take a look at it and have conversations with Tony ... and still want to go through the garage area and meet with team owners and competitors and get their feedback as well. And want to see the ratings. So far everything we've seen, it's something we'd certainly entertain doing again for 2014." The race drew a 1.20 rating, making it the 10th-most watched Truck race ever on Speed, now Fox Sports, with 1.4 million total viewers, and the most-watched sports program for the day on cable. O'Donnell, who played a key role in NASCAR's return to dirt in a national series for the first time in more than 40 years, said it would be premature to think other dirt tracks will be considered for the schedule moving forward. He also ruled out the Nationwide Series racing at the Rossburg, Ohio, half-mile track next year.

I'm loving the fact that they are looking towards running more short tracks.

I think I heard that on The Morning Drive this morning on XM that most of the top 10 were indeed Daytona races.

Yep, makes sense. Apart from it being Daytona, it's also the first major NASCAR points race of the season, so even non-truckheads tune in.
