fantastic news this.

weird though that they first demolished everything, and now everything has to be placed back.

but I guess it helps employment figures for the EU.

two tracks in Europe (in the large sense) added. Good

I'm sure they'll find it necessary to flatten even more gravel traps for tarmac runoff but oh well...I'd still rather see this track with tarmac than not at all.

Though. ...thinking about it, does tarmac runoff even work as a concept on inclines? :?

IIRC there's already a fair few tarmac runoffs there. But yes, I'd expect a bit of safety upgrades.

Remember, not just F1 there, but GP2 and GP3 as well *plz pray*

I am tempted to take my family to the new Austrian GP. The scenery is so superb and we wanted to visit Vienna as well.

It looks a beautiful circuit. Part of me thinks I'd look at it and think that should be my trip next year, but next year will come and I will do nothing.

Fantastic circuit,so fun to drive on video games.
Scenery is also fantastic.

This will be the first race i will watch at place probably,as I 've already asked a day off for July 6th of 2014. Now just waiting for the confirmation and to get some good tickets.
It's about 3hrs from my place,so this will be really great if it happens.

interestingly, I thought about attending as well.

I seem to recall autosport nominatingd this track as one of the worst built though.

I think they mentioned it because in doing so you had to get rid of some of the Osterei..., em, the circuit that was there before.

Funny how some of the tracks that in the past were considered rubbish are now considered to be 'modern classics.'

Hockenheimring - long circuit
Nürburgring GP-Strecke
A1-Ring
Hungaroring

I like it, and I'd welcome it back.

My only complaint is that the older version was so amazing, that the 90's version was a let down, even though it was still quite good. If that makes any sense. :p

I have some sympathy for the Hungarians whenever people immediately call for it to be dropped. Good circuit it isn't, but they have been a loyal and generally well supported GP for the best part of 3 decades.

apart from DC spinning Mika round in 1999, this is a moment that I always remember when thinking of the A1 ring. Schumacher trying to force a red flag

I thought this fight was pretty funny, especially the outcome and Schumi's reaction.

NJ isn't going to happen so I don't think there's much to worry about as far as the schedule is concerned.

I don't know what you are saying, but 2 of them are still considered rubbish, and the 2 others have not seen "modern" F1 races in 10 to 12 years

I think he means that when those tracks started they replaced much more popular tracks, but by the end of their F1 lives, they were mourned for their layout and their layout alone.
(Well, except Hungary which has still been going with only the most minor of changes...)

Maybe in 20 years time our children will be moaning that the excellent Bahrain track is being replaced for some stupid Wipeout 2097 hovercar track....

A1-Ring / Red Bull Ring has always been a meh circuit for me. It has nice scenery and some reasonable elevation change, but it is still only a bunch of hairpins and straights and nothing but a shadow of the former great circuit. But that said, I'd rather see racing there than Abu Dhabi or India.

So, the track layout after being rebuilt is exactly the same as it was before?

Could we somehow compare laptimes from 2002-3 with the ones they'll do next year?
