Gutted because he got spoiled, not because of the winner.

It's worrying that so many people worry about the damn finish being good. Personally, I don't care if the finish is lame as long as most of the racing I sat through was good.

Yeah, I was personally enjoying the "passive-aggressive" racing (and sometimes laughing about it). A GWC would throw all that out the window. The only reason why it "works" (and I use that term loosely) in NASCAR because it's all about the finish, not the journey. IndyCar is about the journey, not the finish. Same with F1. Same with sportscar endurance racing. Same with pretty much any form of motorsport, really (save for drag racing, of course). I really don't want to see the efforts of Andretti Autosport and TK undermine because of some bullshit overtime extension, they're capable of doing that just fine on lap 190 (same goes to the other 27 drivers). Not every year needs to be like 2006, 1992, or 1982.

As I said before I wouldn't be against a more judicial use of a red flag in the final laps but a GWC is a NASCAR thing and needs to stay over in NASCAR country.

Well, people moan about the GWC and lack of action (crashes). So the casual NASCAR-fans probably didn't watch it that much. Also the infamous Nielsen ratings have quite significant dispersion, so the reality could be that as many viewers saw the race than last year.

My two cents about GWC is that if IndyCar would have GWC, we might have to witness some of the most wicked crashes when we want to see staged three-wide finishes. For me the IndyCar (or F1) GWC would be like neutralizing the whole race and give it a random knife fight ending with the survival of the strongest.

Imagine if every football and hockey game would go on overtime, no matter if the other team would have three more goals on their pocket for the night, it would all be open for the final time and the team who makes the last goal, wins. That's what GWC is in my opinion.

Also, as morbid as it may seem, last year's 500 might have gotten a viewership boost because of what happened at the end of the previous season.

Nay, the survival of the luckiest. Actual REAL RACEIN is about the survival of the strongest.

Graham Rahal just went OFF on Pipa Mann on Twitter,

Just to start.

Funny enough also, Jenna Fryer has been going back and forth with IndyCar fans today too on Twitter over comments made about GWC.

not sure why he's getting his knickers in a twist over the article, it's not like she really slagged him off.

What did Pippa actually say?

Knowing Rahal, I'd say Pippa is more Mann that Graham ever will be.

Agreed. He's just massively overreacting. Maybe he should concentrate on driving more.

Quote:
I pitted during the caution period and as I rejoined the track, immediately came the second big contentious moment of my race. Cars coming out of the pits were ignoring the blend line at pit exit, and just trying to accelerate up to whereever they wanted to be in the pack! There was mass confusion, and I asked several times for clarification from race control as to where I was meant to line up. I got the answer and moved into line; however I don't know whether race control didn't tell Graham Rahal and James Jakes this information, or whether they ignored it. I do know that coming down the back straight, under yellow, there was some extremely aggressive passing going in the pack, and assuming that the perpetrators would get penalized for their actions I was furious, but I elected to drop a couple of places back from where I should have restarted to avoid getting into something stupid under yellow. Inside my helmet, I was fuming.

After the restart I started picking off cars one at a time again, and I quickly caught up to Graham, who was meant to have restarted behind me. I watched his line through Turn Four, and knew there was a hole where I could get clean air the next lap. I timed my lift through Three, aimed my car at the clean air down low on the inside in Four, but that time Graham kept coming down in front of me, and I was about a half-car length too close given his different line. As my car took off up the track, Graham was releasing his car out of the corner in front of me. No clean air. No clean air. No clean air. Smack. I whacked the wall with my right-side tires. I'm sure you can imagine the fine stream of choice language that was escaping me at the time.

I drove the car down into Turn One, and caught a big snap, drove it through Two with no issue, and wondered whether it was just paranoia, or whether I had knocked it hard enough to bend something. Another big snap and catch in Turn Three unfortunately confirmed that my day was done, and I headed back down to pit lane.

Just further proof that there is really nothing to be done to make the series more popular

or it just confirms what most free thinking people already knew, the Nielsen's Rating System is as fucked as a chocolate fireguard.
