You're right with what you say but I think you're reading too much into it. The car designation at launch will not have the A at the end of it, but internally it will be known as that. As updates to the car come along, that is when you'll see the B/C/D. Same as in software when a certain AV vendor launches something call AV 12.0, but it will internally known as 12.0.1.

Upgrades through the season don't usually affect the monocoque though (which is what the MP4-28A is referring too - the chassi) as that would require it to go through homologation again. The upgrades tend to be the ancillaries which get different part numbers as they get upgraded/replaced.

But yes, I'm probably reading way too much into it!

The chassis plate for the 26 definitely didn't refer to it as the MP4-26A http://i.imgur.com/CZgmL.jpg
Can't find a pic for the 27

You're making the assumption that the designation is for the chassis, rather than the entire car itself. Whereas in that picture that is the name plate for the car.

What makes it better is that di Grassi says that is actually how he sees. So it turns out F1 driver drive purely on memory! Explains Grosjean and Maldonado...

I've never read any story or suggestion that Alonso's retirement in Spa 2010 was thanks to his car. The spin was caused by him using too much curb on the exit of Malmedy.

Maybe spanish media or Fernando's tweet blamed Barrichello and the damage on the car?

But here's the incidents.

To be honest, it was a big surprise that Fernando didn't retire right after Barrichello incident.

My understanding was that it was a combination of both. Yes he dropped it on the wet kerb, but it was assisted by the damage.

To be honest, it's the first time in F1 where I was totally stunned by the durability of the car. I couldn't believe he managed to continue. But over the last few years the cars have got a lot tougher - Vettel in Brazil for example.

Perhaps he was nursing some damage and that explains his poor pace, but the cause of the spin was because he took too much curb. Running over the painted section with all four wheels plus using grasscrete in wet conditions won't end well.

That's always the view I remember, I don't ever remember being stood up in the car looking down like most sim/game developers think it should be, you judge distances etc. on where the front tyres are, rarely can you actually see what's directly infront of you because your sat so low in the car it's hard to see over the front bulkhead.

You hear Fernando spin up the wheels on the wet astro turb. That accident was all the kerb. He might have had damage that made it harder to drive, or slower to drive, but the spin was without a doubt the kerb IMO.

At best he was over-driving because the accident damage made the car slow ... but that crash is caused by getting off line and running out of grip.

I'd forgotten how heavy that impact from Barrichello was though, and pretty amazing he was able to drive the car long enough to ... crash it again.

It's quite uncanny the similarities between Alonso's race at Spa and Vettel at Interlagos this year.

-Both get hit on lap 1 in the right-rear suspension
-Both hit by a Williams
-Both hits would've meant retirement 5 years ago
-Weather started damp and dried up before turning inclement again
-Both drivers put on a reasonable recovery drive

The only difference is in the final outcome.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Well that's a very driver, seat and car specific thing. Justin Wilsons view is a lot higher than Ant Davidsons. That camera is also mounted OVER one of di Grassis eyes. So it is literally eye level.

Judging by that video, it's crazy how drivers even manage to avoid small debris on the track !

That came to my mind also. I've seen many times that the F1 drivers dodge small objects on the driving line. Surely they must see them coming better than what that video suggests.

I wonder what inside scoops of HRT Pedro will have for Alonso!
