It's called ERS because it's no longer just a Kinetic energy recovery, it's a general energy recovery.

What I think is amazing is that F1 has gone from struggling to keep to one engine a race to having just 5 'Power Units' across a season in the space of ten years!

thanks.

can you also say which other energies involved will be recovered?

I'm not hugely technically minded (I'm trying to learn!) but I believe now it's just energy harnessed under braking. From 2014, it'll be some electric machine in the turbo and a heat converter, as well as kinetic energy.

I just think that ERS sounds like it was named by a Westcountry farmer. Oo-ar.

It'll be fascinating to see how Newey + Red Bull deal with it, because firstly the aerodynamics will become less important and moreover, Renault currently has the weakest KERS.

KERS haven't being a top priority to RBR because they gain more with tigheting their package while sacrificing their KERS's power and reliability. Surely, ERS will be a top priority for every team 2014 ownwards and the probable reliability issues that we'll see won't be due to some overlook on it

Felipe's charity karting race is taking place this weekend, with the usual selection of some F1 drivers of the past, present and future and a shedload of Brazilian touring car racers.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I think Adrian's going to have to work around the engine a lot more than in recent seasons where he essentially said "if you can fit the KERS into what I'm doing, go ahead", which has probably contributed to their higher than average rate of failures within the KERS system, due to it being tightly packaged, and essentially as an after-thought ... from 2014, the 'POWER unit' (it sounds better when you think of it as Clarkson inventing a new word for engine' will have to be a prime consideration. The Red Bull's KERS failures have rarely been terminal, but losing that amount of power for that long would surely have much more terminal effects on competitiveness than at present.

Jay-Bee completely dominated Felipe's Kart event, so far. Ferdinand had problems in his Kart, though. At least he made the fastest lap of the event by a big margin

Primarily it is Button. But I was refering to FI's probable 2013 driver, on that one.

Eventhough he's French, his last name means "whites" in Italian. I think now you know who he is :D

I reckon there's going to be a lot of tech failures early in the year. We might end up with a situation where 'Power Units' are vitally important - maybe one engine will be very good and the others not so! The guy from Mercedes, according to Autosport, says you won't be able to race without ERS.

Poor Mark Webber then...

That promotional video was embarrassing in its production quality. With that in mind I shudder to think what the track and event might turn out like.

Indeed, you're not alone here.

Here's a wonderful idea which may help everyone identify a driver when we're discussing them in 2013 and onwards... How about we use their actual name???

For all the letters used in typing Jay-Bee, it would have been as easy to type Bianchi. That way there would have been no confusion, no multiple posts asking "who is that?" and so on.

All these silly things like Jay-Bee and Ro-Gro and others such like are cringeworthy. Are we that lazy these days (or lacking in creative humour) that we can't write, type or say someone's full name?

End of moan. (Sorry Artur Craft, this moan was nothing against you).

Apologies Kieran, I'm an offender in that. Although I've never heard Jay-Bee being used for Bianchi.

JB works because it's his initials and the vowel sound works. Jay-Bee is stupid because it's pronounced the same, and it's literally impossible to differentiate. And typing it as a short code is moronic as Bianchi has the same amount of letters. And RoGro is just fucking moronic.

RoGro crashes into FerAlo, whilst MaWeb takes avoiding action, allowing SebVet to take the lead. Yeah, stop this pish please.

The RoGro type crap probably emerged from that stupid celebrity pairing trend shite.

JB is Button anyway.
