- Which BTCC team made a one-off appearance in the Italian Touring Car Championship during the nineties?

I think that was Williams Renault wasn't it?

- Apart from a couple of brief appearances as a privateer after the Super Touring regs ended in 2000, which very successful current BTCC team wasn't a permanent fixture on the grid at all until 2004?

Hmm, struggling here. 888 - pre-2000, Dynamics - pre-2000, WSR - pre-2000, Arena - pre-2000, Collard - full time before 2004, RML - pre-2000, Tech-Speed - pre-2000, PSP - full time before 2004 and were never successful, Synchro - full time before 2004, Mardi Gras - pre-2000 and were never successful, GA - full time before 2004, Team Quest/Varta - full time before 2004, Edenbridge - full time before 2004, Kartworld - 2004 was their first full year but they weren't successful either. Those are all the teams from 2004.

That's certainly who I thought it was for question 1.

- Yes it was Williams Renault! But do you remember why they took part?

- As for this question, it was difficult to word the question without almost giving away the answer. The clues are "after Super Touring regs ended in 2000" and the word "permanent"... ;)

Well that would be Team Dynamics then. They ran a part-season in '03 and not at all in '01 or '02.

That I'm not sure. Need to think about that one.

wonder what a modern day ST car would look like...say you had to go with the original class2 rules, or at latest the '95 rules.

i know they'd basically be stock bodied, but idk if they'd look as good due to the bigger fenders.

That's a great question, and in all seriousness I'd expect them to look something like the new generation of V8 Supercars...

i can deal with that, if they ditched the V8 style wings and went with the little ST ones.

oh, and if they cornered super flat, not all roly-poly like the V8's do.

I actually prefer the roly-poly look, as it reminds me of how the Ford Sierra Cosworths looked in the eighties.

oh I don't mind it in the V8's, just if Supertouring were to come back, they need to corner just as flat as thy used to, haha.

If we ever managed to get back to ST/Touring, I would want to have as little aero as possible and saloon cars.

^This

I'd worry if Supertouring could've been sustained to this day then, well I don't want to sound too harsh, but it could be a bit DTM couldn't it?

I'm probably one of the few that think Alfa kinda made the championship a lot worse when they turned up with their wings, forcing everyone else to start adding them too to catch up.

In fairness, Alfa didn't force anybody to add aero to their cars. The FIA could have closed that loophole in the regs but instead re-wrote them for '95, forcing everybody to add aero, re-design their suspension and invest in new wheels basically making everything more expensive, the only way they know how.

Alfa simply exploited the homologation rules to within an inch of their life, and then some more. When given the option as to how to combat the homologation rules, manufacturers chose aero packages. At the time there were a lot of powerful manufacturers involved in Super Touring.

You can thank yours truly for this cap ;) Glad you liked the race as well, it was a totally unique event. It is a shame BTCC don't attempt to do it again.
