Nasty crash, haven't seen a solo takeoff like that in quite a while.

Odd flip for De Silvestro. 2nd degree burn to the hands I'm hearing.

That's definitely an odd way to end up in the catch fence. Hears to hoping she recovers from the burns.

Wow. Looked like she did get the nose into the catchfence. Very lucky that the car didn't fall to bits like Brack or Conway. Will she be ok for qualifying?

I think what saved Simona from more serious injury is that unlike Brack, Briscoe & Conway she wasn't launched straght into the air & straght into the fence. The spin, Impact with the wall & slide down the track all helped slow her down & this meant the impact with the fence was less violent.

Had she got more airborn as soon as the car spun & gone straght into the fence rather than hitting the wall 1st (Like what happened when Tony Renna was killed in turn 3 back in late 2003) she would almost certainly not have got out the car on her own.

While the fact she's OK for the most part is good news, Its depressing that after 8 years of development these Dallara's still like leaving the ground as reletively easily as they do. Getting air after driving over someone at 220mph+ is somewhat understandable but these things get airborn in situations where most other single seaters likely woudn't.

I guess we can expect HVM to get a driver to qualify the backup car. Simona should be okay for raceday if the car gets qualified by another driver, but she would start from the rear.

I was watching last tuesday's weekly show and there was a comment by Robin Miller about drivers possibly agreeing on making a formal petition to IndyCar to have single file restarts at the 500.

Joey and I just got into Indiana. We lost money at Churchill Downs and saw the Louisville Slugger factory.
