Oh for sure, but have to consider this was his first time physically driving the car and on a Pirelli developmental tire. To put the car on the front row (possibly in slightly different weather conditions) is pretty impressive no matter how you slice it.

Marlboro had a similar scheme of dealing with drivers. They had a bunch on their roster and kept placing them wherever they felt it could fit

too bad tobacco money is not welcome anymore and smaller teams dependent of that sweet cancer stick money are less welcome than the first

The same Coulthard who was parked in the middle of his first season to be replaced by 40-year-old Mansell? That Coulthard?

In fairness, DC was - at this point - a promising test driver who was literally thrown in at the deep end to replace an all-time great. Mansell was still - at this point - a genuine top driver, only in his second year out of the team, having gone away and won the IndyCar series in the meantime.

Williams was locked in a tight battle for the constructors' championship, and it doesn't look like they made a bad choice in hindsight - Mansell scored 13 points in four races against the 14 that DC scored in twice as many.

It was the right choice, which is my point - there was no room for sentimentality or 'fairness', however it is defined. Williams made the right business choice, and so have Red Bull. Their development is already stunted because of the cost cap penalty and they are going to need a second driver who can get at least in the same postcode as Max, especially on Saturdays.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Were there any news/pictures/feedback from the wet-weather wheel arch/mudguard tests last week? Seems to have been done very quietly.

Latest whisper is that 3 teams went over budget in 2022.

My guess
- Aston Martin. Stroll does what he want
- Mercedes. Went from Uber shit to race winner. They upgraded a lot
- either alpine or Ferrari. They’re just incompetent

Laurent Rossi has been shooed off the Alpine F1 team and will now work in other group projects. Philippe Krief replaces him.

how long until Alpine sets the team for sale and they ignore Andretti's offer, selling to someone shady?

So the guy that forced out two of it's drivers and seen the team massively underperform has been given the boot? Give it 18 months and Mazepin will take it over.

Leclerc got a +5s penalty today for speeding. That used to be a drive-thru which makes me wonder, when was the last time we saw a drive thru? Seems to me they're more like a thing of the past now?

I hope the penalty is dependant on how much you speed by, otherwise I can see quiet a loophole there….

Isn't it also still true that any drive through worthy incident at Silverstone have to be applied as Stop/gos because even at pit lane speeds, the pit lane is a shorter and quicker route through turn 1/2 compared to staying on the track

Though I can see Di Grassi kicking himself he never tried the short cut during his time in F1 :p

Aah, the good old days where a driver would have to serve his 10s stop and go at the end of the pitlane, and if he did something wrong, he could do it again the next lap...

They've killed F1TV Pro over VPNs. Back to dodgy streams, then.
