Knowing Bernie, he probably had a hidden agenda that bettered him.

If I can recall, they were one of the last European countries to allow tobacco advertising.

By that stage I think outside of Monaco that was it.

I'll be a bit negative, but I don't think I like Spa all that much anymore. I'm old enough to have seen the "old"-ish layout with a stop white line at La Source, white dashed lines, and painted access ramps on Kemmel and Stavelot/Blanchimont that were a live public road. One lap was an adventure through the forest, similar to Le Mans.

The changes since then: widening, tarmac run-offs, easy flat exit curbs, just stripped it of all that feeling, and it's not all that exciting anymore and especially for modern F1 cars. I'm afraid this will only get worse with the new updates.

It's still great, just that compared to Monza who has kept the same feeling, it's not all that essential to the championship anymore for me. With the classic races we've had at Bahrain in the past decade, I can see it becoming more of a classic in the eyes of younger fans, than Spa which doesn't deliver as much excitement since the early 2000s

I think Bernie owns a lot of hotels around Spa, that's the reason he wanted it back

I honestly feel Spa is falling victim to Verstappen's success. His success already revived the Dutch GP which otherwise would never have happened. And now they dont feel the need to have Belgium GP anymore.

If they really want to bump it up to 30 races I would absolutely not be surprised if they try to add a 2nd GP in the Netherlands if Max keeps racing in the top.
It will get sold out and they have done it before (Germany, Spain)

His mother is Belgian, no need for a second Holland race ;)

those changes were bad not only for Spa, but for several tracks, plus the new Bus Stop is quite shit compared to what used to be

for me Spa today is more an endurance racing track due to its lenght and profile, and without gravel and a bit more of unforgiveness is just another track

I know it's given us some great racing, but I just cannot look forward to a race at Bahrain as much as I've do at Spa

Whether that's just nostalgia or not I don't know, this season has been a fantastic start with the new rules, better looking cars, unreliability back etc, but the fact that it started at Bahrain instead of Melbourne stopped it being as exciting as it could be for me
It's just meh as a layout, not one exciting corner that makes you think "wow" and as someone said before, its exciting watching a car practice or qualify on their own at Spa, that's not something you get at this modern desert carpark tracks

Also you rarely hear the term track limits at Spa either :whistling:

So yeah, obviously because of that, this will be the last grand prix at Spa and we'll have 12 races a season on Bahrain's various layouts ;)

spa is my favorite track. even tho it might not have the pure "road" aspects that birthed it, it still has that flavor of being shaped by the geography of its surroundings - unlike most modern tracks

So they will be doing that while the NFL season is in course and Vegas has the Raiders playing there now.

I guess if the Raiders are playing home it can hurt attendance of the race and vice versa

I really don't want to see Spa get kicked off

I'd much rather see a boring shithole like CoTA, Paul Ricard or Yas Marina get yeeted

Great, yet another airport/parking lot circuit...yippee. I get that Liberty are trying hard to infiltrate the US market but 3 races feels oversaturated. They'd likely get more US engagement with an American driver on the grid in a competitive team.

If they can race in Zandvoort, they can race in any other historic circuit in the USA. None of them are more dangerous than Jeddah. FIA is very flexible with their requirements, if they want to.
And I'm sure the locals are accustomed to the old-school facilities, so even they don't require upgrading.

I just don't want any more street tracks. Period. More tracks like Red Bull Ring and Spa, please.

It's the age old problem though

I like Road America, Laguna Seca etc as they are now, I don't want them having to butcher themselves to accomodate F1

But that's what I'm saying. They don't need to be butchered, because they are not more dangerous than Jeddah or more old-school than Zandvoort. But they don't even consider old tracks, because Liberty wants to turn F1 into Formula E with mostly city races. Whereas I, as an F1 dictator, would have races in the middle of nowhere, like at Magny-Cours <3
