It’s not the track. It’s drivers and their attitude and mentality about racing. Move barriers more further on the left side and fill the front of it with gravel. If you make a mistake and try to cut, you’re gonna get punished. if there is a crash at Eau Rouge with gravel on either side, you won’t get cars trying to drive around the accident at flat out speed. They will be more inclined to lift off if the car is getting loose.

Sorry, I'm a l'Ancienne Douane fundamentalist now. They ruined Spa when they opened up Eau Rouge

Okay, being serious for a moment.

Am I imagining it or did it really used to be tighter?

yep, it was more difficult back in the day

but drivers back in the day used to respect the track and the cars they were driving. They knew death was waiting at the next corner

I think it's time Vettel got out of the car and started running for Masi's role if he thinks any kind of wet running is dangerous

Nothing to do with him not being as good as others in the wet, of course

One driver made a mistake, it's not like 20 of them went barrelling into Eau Rouge and crashed...

Stick to driving or become a race director Seb, not both

Are you going to dictate your hatred for all those who complained about aquaplaining, because it was just about all of them, including Lewis...

One thing I noticed is that every driver checked on Norris' condition on the radio straight away.

Interesting then that FOM only played Vettel's radio as it fit their narrative of "good guy wholesome Vettel" at the moment then

As Stef says, they didn't play a replay of George almost spinning and only played Vettel's "this is too dangerous" message, making him look like the hero alone now when they were all at it....

The question is: why? So gullible idiots like me can fall for it and think Vettel is the only outspoken one? Or are they creating a narrative for him to be able to get a job in the FIA post career? :?

All speculation, but something is obv going on

It used to be a lot tighter indeed. There was basically an earth bank on the outside of the apex still in the 1960s. It's almost a miracle we didn't have a 1961 Italian GP-like disaster during that decade.

In the 1980s more cautious drivers even used to brake before climbing the hill, then it was only lift the throttle and now it's full on trottle in the dry.

All the F1 onboards since 1987 to 2020. This place is a lot wider than it was in the aftermath of Stefan Bellof's death and immediate beyond.

if they allowed teams to change setup according to the weather there wouldn't be so many drivers claiming the situation was bad, as they make setups based on mostly dry conditions (also based on the technicality that they'll race only if it's suited for inters)

funny that if Russell did his setup based on wet conditions than his race tomorrow will be appalling unless, of course, he's under strict orders of Herr Wolff to make things easier for his upcoming team

vettel seems to be a genuine guy as a human being, even tho i'm not a fan of his driving. video directors are always trying to tell a story or narrative - it's simply good tv.

now who thinks hammy would've been accused of "whining" if it had been his radio instead?

I saw somebody on Twitter suggest that they simply revert to the layout used here from 1921 - 1938:

It seems like a great solution if you think about it - the safety concerns are removed, the HISTORY OF SPA brigade can't complain because it's literally the original layout, the circuit owners profit from an extra couple of grandstands, and it would probably be a good overtaking spot.

Besides, Raidillon/Eau Rouge has been a Tamburello-style 'not even a corner unless something breaks' thing for years now, and Pouhon - the real challenging corner - doesn't get touched. Everybody wins!

Why don't they do something further up the track, so the cars aren't hitting it at such high speeds?

Norris has no fracture, and is allowed to take the start in 14th. 5-place grid penalty for gearbox change.

Fog and drizzle at the moment. A larger band of rain is moving in and should hit in about 2-3 hours. Unless new showers develop behind that, could be dry for the race.

won't be though

Should definitely rain according to forecasts (googling Spa weather, result from weather.com, hour by hour forecast)

Porsche cup is ongoing, very wet. F1 pussies (bwahaha) wouldn't start the race in similar conditions.

This week-end is so exciting, so many different lines and tactics. Dry racing should be banned :p
