I have no idea why motorsport is supposed to be associated with ear-deafening noise and tbh, it's never something that's drawn me to the sport

I'm just as happy seeing side by side racing in Formula E as I am in F1, it's the competittion and spectacle I'm here for, noise can be damned

I'd much rather motorsport went silent so all those NIMBYs trying to get tracks shut based on noise concerns can suddenly realise that racing can continue under their noses and not bother their stupid intefering busy body house prices, or will they then find another reason to try and shut down race tracks, almost as if they're being backed by house builders or something else that wants the land.

Silent motorsport is better than no motorsport, and this isn't really a green concern either, tbh

Well, if I was a führer, I would send modern cars to a junk yard and order all teams to build these cars. Imagine 2021 Italian GP with 20 of these screaming. Sound doesn't matter, eh?

Grooved tyres, aerodynamic flick ups, traction/launch control, refueling......no thank you

The crackly pop of traction control cutting power to the cylinders so the driver can mash the throttle without thinking about it is one of the worst sounds in Motorsport tbh
That combined with the Rev limited V8s made it one of the worst sounding eras in the sport imo (though that might be a bit later than that Ferrari tbf)

If you are a dictator you can change those for your liking. But keep the echoing V10 sound.

just make it a challenge to drive, good straigh line speed but not on the turns just like when Ronnie Peterson used to say "a car able to drive the whole track without having to turn the wheel"

and make everything enviromental, but the race cars

Assen would be utter garbage

Only if they could bring old Assen back from the dead. New Assen is just meh.

Too narrow for an F1 car, but it would be a spectacle

Don't think Assen is an option. FOM requested major changes to the track lay-out in order to bring it up to the standard they want, which won't be able to carried out because there's a highly protected nature-reserve right next to the track and the emissions for such a renovation are deemed too high. Even the event itself would be a challenge to get permissions for on such a short notice, especially as they already had the MotoGP this year and therefore they've used a lot of their allocated yearly allowance regarding nitrogen emissions. I don't think it'll be possible, for sure not with fans in attandence (because of the extra traffic causing pollution, not because of covid). Even Zandvoort is still facing some of these issues as we speak, but from what I can see I expect that to be resolved before the F1 weekend

I dunno, that video gave me quite a bit of a nostalgia feel. The PA that can't be heard over the sound of the car, the air horns from the fans in the grandstand...I don't care about the sound of traction control. There must be a middle ground F1 can stand on, between this and what we have now.

I've been to one major race in my life, and I can't describe the feeling of hearing those 33 cars going nose to tail through turn 3 at IMS (or 32, I think Buddy Lazier didn't took the green flag :p ). And I'd bet they sound nothing like the F1's V10 or V8 of years ago.

looking at the US trademark listings out of boredom, looks like the Miami track could be called "Circuit in the Gardens"

Minor rant but since when did Pierre Gasly become too cool to wear his cap the right way around?

I said it before and I'll say it again. None of us will continue to watch utter boring parades with taste sound but every single one of us will tune in each week for great racing with meh sound.

Sound is one of the last things they should focus on. If the rest is fixed, yes take a look at it but until then, focus on the really important stuff.

Thats my entire point. The racing is shit so focus on that first.
If they fix the sound, the racing is still shit and you basically achieved nothing because people still will call the racing shit.

Fix the racing first then focus on the sound.

I basically agree, but it isn't realistically possible to fix the sound as long as the focus is on efficiency - which, again realistically, it needs to be. Noise is wasted energy, and the turbochargers are so important that they are only going to get quieter.

I find it funny that once Mercedes found out by accident that one of their cars had a great exhaust noise and since then they use top notch sound engineers to make their sports cars sound properly when on sport mode

perhaps they could put those professionals to work that out

Was that the 2000/2001 cars? They definitely screamed like nothing else.

no haha I was talking road cars. Back in the V10 days they worked exhaust for perfomance rather than noise, that's why it was damn loud
