I still remember being internally outraged when the first F1 driver started a race who was younger than me (Jaime Alguesuari has me by 2 months, I was born early 1990) now there is kids 10 years younger than me running around and it makes me realise how little I've achieved in life

At least no world champions are younger than me, gj Lewis

F1 is like the ruler that shows me how old I am getting. First, drivers younger than I. Then Barrichello leaving the grid, meaning there were no more drivers that race in the first race I remembered watching (Monaco 1996).

It started to get really weird with Kevin Magnussen, and the thought of "Hey! I saw your father racing in F1 too".

When I started watching F1, some guys where the same age as my parents. Now only two on the grid are older than me.

Sigh, the proportions are still off on that, too long and too wide a front wing.

Better, don't get me wrong, but this was a chance to reset the look of the cars and the aero bits are different but the chassis feels more of the same.

Fuck, I sure do miss the look of the short wheelbase nimble F1 cars of the late 90s.

I'm probably the only one that miss the look of the 2009-2016 cars (minus the stupid rules years of 2012 and 2014, despite those seasons being pretty exciting, racing wise)

The looks of the cars in 2011 and 2013 especially are some of my all time favourites

Late 90s cars got ruined by the 1998 rule changes and particularly grooved tyres, which never looked good

1997 probably is one of my favourite season for looks of the cars. Then obv late 90s-2000s Champcars which are easily the best looking race cars of all time imo

Ditto. The day Kimi and Alonso retire, millions will suddenly feel old.

To be honest with you all, 9 of current F1 drivers are younger than ME. And I was always one of the youngest one here on this forum. So yeah, that's sad

I remember watching and getting my dad to tape races from 1999. Am I old?

My parameter for aging as a F1 fan is witnessing Senna's passing. Given the fact that more than half of this year's grid was born after the most important fact in recent F1 history

if you have even the slight memory of Imola 94 or the funeral afterwards, then yes you're old

This! A shorter wheelbase would fix most of the issues with these cars.

They started to get longer from 1998 on to make the cars less pitch-sensitive on the grooved tyres, then jumped in length when refuelling was banned and haven't stopped since then.

I know it is probably going to be a mute point.....but what about the drivers visibility with those wheel winglets? They do seem like they will take away some of the visibility especially on street circuits. And good luck with the mechanics getting the wheels on properly without damaging them.

Probably no real effect on visibility as they are shaped to curve up around the tyre anyway. However, they will either help the mechanics by giving them something to aim for, or create noise and protests the moment somebody bounces a wheel off them during a stop.

someone made an animation of what would have happened if Verstappen spun to the left instead of the right in Baku.
Could have been very very nasty
