Wait....they approved those sprint races???? For fucks sake. The direction this sport has taken is making me be that depressed old man that sits in the corner still watching out of habit, holding out hope that the sport doesn't keep going the way it is.

An inevitably I will make comments saying I don't like the way it is now....and then I get told to stop being a dinosaur and shut up.....not all progress is good progress you know.

There'll be 3 sprint races, according to Domenicalli. Nothing's official, but Silverstone is almost certain. Monza, Interlagos and Montreal are the other likely ones.

Welcome to NASCAR fandom, sigh.
Seriously though, I can't agree with you enough. I feel like the entire sport is passing me by, not just NASCAR and F1. Habit is a hard thing to break, you're right about that. And I'll always love racing, but "progress" in the form of parity (in NASCAR/IMSA/IndyCar) cost-cutting and especially electrification is killing the fun, and leading to manufactured drama like the stage wins and playoffs in NASCAR and now sprint races in F1, which in turn kills the sport even more.

It's no wonder we are such a nostalgic lot on here.

Pretty normal first day of testing then. Hamilton will show up here in a couple weeks and canter to pole position by around 0.6-0.8s with Bottas trailing him by the usual 0.2-0.3s. Roll on 2021 huzzah!
McLaren would be my early pick to take P3 in the Constructors.

As ever with testing, teams won't tell you the truth behind their programs and there's no real data to analyse, but it won't stop people from trying

Like Sky, who are certain this is the season of high rake designs and are already awarding the championship to max
(Apparently a season where max and Lewis switch places and we have similar level of dominance by red bull as mercedes have given us is better because.....reasons?)

It's likely Merc "struggled" because they're the only team who didn't do a "filming" day so are working out teething issues the other teams have already shook out

But meh, it's testing. Talk to me in 2 weeks time of course

Yes, not yet officially rubber-stamped, it is being discussed this weekend.

They are officially brain dead if they're going to do sprint races. I just hope there's gonna be serious pileups and due to parc ferme only 8 cars can start Sunday Grand Prix. A proper disgrace for F1.

It will just be the first stint of the gp, but on the Saturday. Should have been reverse grids, typical F1 to first suggest something good and then implement a watered down worse version.

I'm not even sure we'll see them, I'm sure F1 will wrangle themselves in a tizzy over it and in the end nothing will change

OR maybe we all have to sit through 3 boring processions on a saturday afternoon before they realise the error of their ways

Of course they won't be needed when the 2022 regulations mean they're overtaking every lap, DRS will even be taken off by 2023.... :whistling:

that's definately what will happen

of course they will not admit it'll be a failure and say that the tire from the sprint race must be used on the feature, which mean they'll have to nurse even more the cars

This is F1. They will double down and it will be in place for the whole season for 2022.

Am I the only one who thinks that these new rules might not be the bee's knees like they are portraying? It is F1 after all. Expect one team to get a march over everyone else and dominate. They won't be able to blame the rules then....oh wait...yes they will.
