Give that marshall a medal. It was difficult to see where the driver was, as soon as he saw him he started spraying where it matters until he was rescued out.

He will consider himself lucky with only such minor injuries.

The car broke in half but at least monocoque stay in one piece. That means the chassis do it's job!

I have a feeling the Armco broke and that is what cut the car in half

Clearly, that was nearly a head on impact with a barrier.

That was my first thought too. Flashbacks to 1989 Berger at Imola and '90 Donnelly at Jerez. A whole different era.

Beggars belief and such a relief that he seems basically OK, but for some minor burns and possible broken rib/ribs. Can't believe that kind of impact didn't cause some horrific injuries or worse.

This looks like an outtake from Driven. Good god.

And I just remembered a dream that I had last night, which was an incredible coincidence. I dreamed that I was attending a race and during the pre-race festivities they had one of those jet-powered dragsters doing a show, and something went wrong and the car accelerated full bore directly into a wall of the track and went through the wall with a giant explosion. I've never had a dream like that before, so what are the odds that I would wake up the very next morning, pour a cup of coffee, turn on the F1 race, and see this???

This is the first time in history that anyone has jumped off a cockpit-first impact that mangled the armco.

They really should have Tecpro barriers everywhere. It cannot be a cost issue that there was no protection there.

I think this is the scariest crash I’ve seen in 30+ years of watching racing

I'm surprised that there was Armco at an angle to the track at place that hosts F1. That just seems like something you'd see here at a dirt/paved short track here in the States, not F1. If we've learned anything over the years, if there's a spot on the track that's still unsafe, they'll find it eventually. (Thinking of Sadler's Pocono wreck in 2010 as I type this)

Full replay was horrible to look at, even knowing he came out of the wreck alive and with his own power. Every second felt like an hour.

Today is 29.11.2020 sunday, and since 2017 when they said they will introduce halo for 2018 onwards i was very much against it, i didnt like it and it looks ugly.... but today i saw the purpose of it, and the driver walked away, and is still thank God alive thanks to halo.
And now i have changed my mind cuz it really saved the drivers life, if it wasnt for the halo the guard rail would cut his head off, incredible. But thank God nothing serious happened. Thankyou for Halo who ever introduced it

After the qualifying result I didn't think this thread would reach page 5...

I'm surprised, but not surprised. It seems like there are walls that are at a way too sharp of an angle everywhere. While they have to leave openings for track access for safety crews and so forth, surely they can still angle the walls better than this...

So now they're installing concrete barriers there. Hopefully something soft as well.

You know what...I'm fucking MAD at Grosjean after seeing his replays. He just didn't have ANY awareness AT ALL!! Instead of you know...taking your foot off the gas instead of hitting someone he just swerved WILDLY across the road where he knew that there would have been a car. Look at the angle of his steering wheel.

Instead now we are all going to say Oh My God what a miracle the cars are so safe. How lucky was he. Instead of saying hey Roman have a stint on the side lines for DANGEROUS and IRRIOSPONSIBLE driving!!!

He should be banned for his actions.
