Honestly, these old school rollcages looks way better than the shit we have by FIA and soon from IndyCar.

This sort of photo is often posted as if it was an argument (bad visibility). In photos it looks worse, because it is 2D, the view generally is wrong (like here, too high and far away from the steering wheel), and most importantly in reality the driver almost never looks directly ahead at least on regular circuits.

Drivers do not seem to complain about them often either.

I will say that I have one significant reservation about the device as it relates to extraction.

For example, if this device had been on Hinch's car when he had his accident in 2015, can they still get him out and get him to Methodist before he bleeds to death? It was a very close thing with an open cockpit.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Indy Pro 2000 Championship & USF2000 races starting at IRP. Broadcasts is on FloRacing.com (video / subscription), USAC app (free / radio) & RoadToIndy.TV (free / video / RTI only)

-

I vaguely remember a interview from one of the drivers had saying the upper frame did block in a simulator test a couple years ago, maybe with the different mounting points that it removed some of the obstruction?

for the circumstances with the PPG device & no other short term solution, I think IndyCar & Red Bull did a good concept. Apparently it sounds like the bars will be thinned out with exception to the areas with the heater core for the aeroshield itself for the prototype

The main thing I wish they would do with the RBRT Aeroscreen 2.0 structure & with the FIA Halo, is at the very least have the upper frame at a flat level instead of sloping down to connect on the sides of the tub - that way vision is less obstructed

if it was me, i still prefer a supermodified roll cage or a NHRA dragster roll cage connecting to the aeroscreen over the Halo style structure for the rear engine style open wheel cars.

Does anyone know where I can watch the race after it finishes? I'll probably miss the whole thing but don't want to wait for torrents to watch.

I think the halo looks great. They could have made it shitty looking and ineffective, but they did the opposite of both. And like Marc said, it's going to save lives, and look kinda badass doing it. Well done lads/ladies

Yeah. If it means a driver can walk away from an accident where a large piece of debris would have intruded the cockpit and done some serious damage like the Henry Surtees or Justin Wilson incidents, I don't care how it looks.

How late into the day can they run the race? Looks like a washout all morning, but possibly dry mid-late afternoon.

They can probably run until 8PM local before visibility starts becoming a real issue. Silly Indiana and their farmer timezone
