Any idea why Penske isn't running the Acura's anymore? It's not like they weren't successful or anything

They ended the partnership by a mutual agreement. Speculation that Acura wanted customer cars run by different teams and Penske wanted to keep the exclusivity. Also that Penske was eyeing another manufacturer for LMDh era but that seems a bit odd since nothing has been announced.

What about Penske himself is getting old and also runs the entire Indycar series?

GTE has had a good run. But we don't need a Ferrari 488 GTE AND a Ferrari 488 GT3. I'll happily take the cheaper one with more competition.

I think they wouldn't do this if Corvette wasn't planning a GT3 version soon.

Killing GTE in WEC/at Le Mans can't happen this soon as there is still a good grid for GTE Am.

It might take a couple of years more, yes, but some of the GTE-Am teams already field GT3 versions of their cars in other series.

And I think being able to run the same car in virtually every blue riband endurance race could be a huge pull factor for AM drivers/owners.
