HUGE HUGE crash in turn 1. Gunter Schaldach has gone through the turn 1 wall.

Damn that was huge. Glad hes ok. I hate how bad things have gotten for Banner Racing the last couple years, ever since Pontiac pulled out of production and competition theyve really seemed to struggle.

Seems the Mazda driver may be injured a bit. Fully conscious and doesn't look to be in much distress. Must be a neck/back problem since they're taking so much time and care to get him out.

I don't have much knowledge of what causes it, but it just boggles my mind that stuck throttle is still this regular a risk in racing. Surely someone's designed a throttle system that can kill the engine as soon as it detects a significant difference between the pressure on the gas pedal and the revs in the engine? Or assuming the pedal is what's getting stuck, a different mechanism less likely to lock up?

The problem was he had no brakes. He hit them a few times trying to pump them, but from the looks of it he had no rear brakes and he just locked the fronts up.

Sequence of photos from a cameraman standing right behind where the Camaro hit: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... eTheater=1

He says repeatedly the engine was wide open, although the driver's comment was the brakes jammed. Wonder if it was both?
