Taking the NASCAR "random finish line" philosophy to new extremes. Fortunately it didn't affect the result

Well, they effectively ran a lap less.

Many things could happen during a lap, even if it's not Le Mans or the Nordschleife. We'll never know.

I feel like they ran maybe TWO laps less than what should’ve happened. They could’ve run one more, then taken the white the next time around to ensure the full 24 hours were covered.

True, yeah. I was just talking in terms of positions being settled. Would have sucked if they were still half a second apart.

Very odd. Apparently NBC clock was off 50s, but even if true we got screwed out of at least 1 lap.

I only quickly checked the live timing clock and it matched the broadcast graphics (considering web delays).

Newgarden in the pits definitely looked surprised.

The main explanation seems to be that the race event officially begins at 1:40 pm. I guess usually the green flag time has been close enough to 1:40 pm so this difference hasn't mattered at the end.

You'd think a race backed by a watch company would be able to time 24 hours correctly.

So apparently IMSA has the same rules as the FIA where if some fucking dipshit waves the checkered flag at any point during a race then it's officially over there and then. Even if 1 lap or 1 minute of racing has occured. :flag:
