Hard to believe ACO won't be biased towards their own brainchild LMH at Le Mans and in WEC, and IMSA biased towards LMDh in their events, respectively.

Worth mentioning that LMH itself was going to have BoP even before the LMDh convergence became a thing, so there's in-class and inter-class BoP and probably all cars will be BoPed individually. These rules won't produce genuine "best car" winners, and in that way it will be very similar to GTE and GT3.

Of course, but that would mean Audi and other big names opting out of Le Mans quite soon. And running WEC/Le Mans with only two official manufacturers (I don't think Alpine has officially annunced a LMH program yet) might be a risky business. In my opinion ACO has a lot more to lose than IMSA.

I'm not particularly against EoT/BoP, since if it's done right (even if that's a big if) it provides great racing, but I really don't see why any manufacturer that aims for a Le Mans win should invest in an LMH when they can win with a LMDh, which costs a fraction of the price and involves way less R&D.

That's why I sort of expect LMDh to race at Le Mans for a couple of years (if at all) before the ACO basically tells them "well guys, those folks at Peugeot and Toyota spent ten times your money to build those cars. We really can't let you win in an Oreca with a stock GT3 engine and a generic hybrid system, sorry."
I hope to be proven wrong though.

I fully expect 2 factory Porsche LMDh's in IMSA under Penske.

2023 is shaping up to be fine indeed. Audi, Toyota, Porsche, Peugeot... Honda is rumored to want to come play along with Ford. Assuming Honda stays with Acura branding and Cadillac along with Mazda remain, could have up to 8 prototype manufacturers on the grid at Daytona in 2023.

Then there's Glikenhause and Alpine I think saying they're coming.

LMH @ IMSA is still unclear. After the original convergence announcement there was talk that IMSA would only allow "mainstream brand" LMHs (so no Glickenhaus) and that they would have to pay IMSA's questionable manufacturer partner fee. Then a few months later it was up in the air again and IMSA was going to monitor how 2021/22 LMH in WEC works out first.

Peugeot is apparently still planning to make an US market return by 2023. If that doesn't happen then they have little reason to race there either and this time they don't have to do it just to be able to race against their main competitor.

I think it really depends on how much the constructors want to invest in the American market. With the rumored Multimatic chassis (as per DSC), Porsche and Audi factory efforts would look like two US-based affairs.

A Toyota involvement on American soil would make perfect sense, but I'm not sure how much Peugeot would want to commit to extra WEC races and, as far as I know, Renault cars aren't even sold in the US.

Now that they brought Chip Ganassi into the picture, GM is probably going to stay for LMDh and I don't think Wayne Taylor would have jumped ship after all those years of GM partnership, if there wasn't anything "big" on Acura/Honda's agenda. Still I haven't heard any rumors about Ford lately.

Looks like a downsized lmp1. The old nonhybrid lmp1 at least had some twitchyness while this hyper looks even slower or more less fast as a lmp2.
I find the sound a improvement compared to the ts050.

Looks like a GT format convergence could be the best idea to keep the class alive. There doesn't seem to be any new GTE-Pro program in the foreseeable future. Probably ACO and SRO don't want to step on each other's turf, but Le Mans with possibly only 4 cars is not so interesting

The obstacles to GT3 are ACO's not-invented-here stubborness and GM/Corvette, who is the only GTE make without a GT3 car.

The hypercars look great. But I thought they were meant to look more like Street versions? They look just like Prototypes styled cars to me.

Prototypes with more styling if the OEM wants was always plan and the "Hypercar" name was always dumb. Later some provisions and allowances for production based models were added thanks lobbying by Aston Martin who then quit anyway so no one is going to be using those provisions.

The Toyota might look like their LMP1 but underneath and regulation-wise it is not like it: power curve and aerodynamic figures are capped and they are part of the homologation process, in/off season developement will be limited to joker updates and there will be GTE-like BoP.

I have absolutely no problem with how the cars look, as long the racing is good and many "Hypercars" will be on the grid so we can have a real battle again at Le Mans.

off-topic but also on-topic:

Acura (Honda) joins Audi & Porsche as confirmed manufacturers in the LMDh platform for 2023+. This makes it up to 6 or 7 confirmed makes for the combined Hypercar / LMDh class (Acura, Audi, Peugeot, Porsche, Toyota, Glickenhaus, and ByKolles)

I'm quite surprised by a couple of names, most notably Kevin Magnussen: should GM have confirmed a LMDh program, I sort of expected him to be one of the drivers, given his ties with Ganassi and his father's pedigree with Chevrolet.

Gustavo Menezes is a great choice but he's already with Glickenhaus for this year, meaning it will just be a stop-gap for him.

I will bet $100 that GM will convert the Vette to GT3 spec for next season.
