elShankRac in 2013. That is not changing. We both have obligations to each other and 10 full time employees that work on that car. Everyone driver in our series has had their day/time when they have caused issues very similar to this. However I will say that @GustavoYacaman has made bad decisions and I promise u that we will correct this path..

I'm thinking obligations = $$$

That's what I assumed too.

The trouble is now, he's going to be under such massive scrutiny that he any mistake he makes is going to be magnified tenfold by his fellow drivers, series rulemakers and fans.

Maldanado, Cecotto Jr, Kyle Busch, Plato, Yacaman.....there's always one bad boy isn't there? :p

Motorsport is expensive and is very hard to find money these days.... so, Yacaman, albeit reckless and even disrespectful towards his fellow drivers, will stay.

The battle between Auberlen and Curran was great. The overtake that Turner's BMW did, for that lead, was very beautiful. Plus, it had a masterful defense afterwards in the end when Curran was really pushing him to make a mistake and even a small one would allow for a clean overtake

Even if he costs the team in damages?

Post subject:  Re: Grand-Am Random Discussion

The money he's bringing to the team must be much more the the losses he cause to them, I have to assume.

For sure, if the profit/deficit were negative, they would've already ditched him. The money he takes can only be more than enough to compensate all the damage that comes along with his driving.

edit: unfortunately, as I would be very happy to have him out of any motorsport

It's a bit of a paradox: money gets you the drive, driving bad and causing damage costs money, your money gets even more valuable.

Shanks is no fool, the "contract" probably includes stipulation either they (the sponsors) use insurance, or cover damage costs.

Or they just insure the car and included that cost into the budget proposal.

Who are Yacaman's backers anyway? Assuming they are a family business or something like that because I don't know who else would actually want to burn money supporting this idiot.

Even if the money for damaged cars keeps rolling in, at some point, enough has to be enough. I've never seen such blatant ignorance from a driver. He seems to genuinely believe he's in the right by throwing it in there without a second thought and everyone should just move over or it's their fault.

Read that my Twitter buddy Andrew Novich got the win in the CTSCC ST division this past weekend. Can't wait to watch that race now. :)

Late on this, but #Grand-AM extended @GustavoYacaman's probation another 2 races

Wow, so if you're on probation and you commit another offence, you get your probation extended?

Strict series, Grand Am.

Oh don't worry, he's bound to do it in the next race and the other teams will get very vocal.

That could lead to an awfully long rubber band but hopefully when it snaps, it snaps hard on him.

NASCAR pretty much runs the series now, so yeah...

From a sanctioning angle, you guys are way too wound up about the Mid-Ohio incident. He barely nudged a guy (who stayed on track, didn't spin, and didn't lose any extra positions) and ended up ruining his own race in the process. He pretty much suffered an immediate consequence on his own for the contact.

I can see why there's frustration in general, because his mistake resulted in a melted car for a team that doesn't have a ton of funding. But as far as penalties go, I don't think anything else was necessary (for the Mid-Ohio deal).

Still, considering that he''s on probation, he should have known better than to make that move knowing that Grand-Am would make a harsh consequence.

Michael Shank Racing apparently have the 6 car fixed and it's being loaded for the trip to the Glen for Yacaman to destroy again as we speak.

The 60 continues it's merry-go-round of local sponsors with a company that is very familiar to those of us in Western and Central New York.

And in other news, Enzo Potillicio's team has two cars at the Glen so the entry list has 14 DPs and 19 GT/GXs.

In the meantime it's raining cats & dogs in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Watkins and it's all going to shit, including 2 flips in the same corner. I hope someone is capping this.
