Big announcement incoming.

FIA announce 5 more years of WEC and they've all been given nice courtesy cars powered by Ford :whistling:

http://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/mult ... t-program/

Quote:
Ford’s new factory GT program will see heavy involvement from Multimatic, with the Canadian-based firm not only building and developing the all-new Ford GT, but also heading up operations of Chip Ganassi Racing’s program in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

At the center of the global effort is George Howard-Chappell, with the former Prodrive team principal returning to the sports car racing scene as the Ford GT program manager and operations director in the FIA WEC.
[...]

On the operations side, Multimatic will also be tasked with assembling Ganassi’s European-based crew for its FIA WEC effort.

With a presence in the UK, largely with ex-Lola personnel, Howard-Chappell said Multimatic is well equipped for the program.

This has been known for a while now, but I believe it's only just hitting the interwebs.

Next year there'll be an all-Dutch LMP2 effort at Le Mans: J. Verstappen/J. Lammers/F. van Eerd.

This won't work (at least if they are aiming for victory).

In 2008 it worked to have 2 pro drivers and 1 amateur driver because their car (The Porsche RS Spyder) was a class better than their competition, and the only other Porsche had a worse line-up. LMP2 is too professional nowadays to make such a line-up work. And the average age of that car would be 50+ if they start next year.

The car actually withdrew already due to mechanical issues. I dont think we have a thread on Pikes Peak here but practice is halted due to a serious crash in the motorcycle division.

Motorcycles at Pikes Peak doesn't have much business in the ACO thread, so bring it elsewhere

What are the chance that the rest will adapt their existing cars to LMP1?

Eh, not very high I think.

ACO has not been vocal about it, but I think that is what they hope. But due to budget concerns, I fear that Strakka-Dome, SMP-BR01, etc will just fade away.

Yeaa unfortunately I suspect that will be the case. LMP1 is expensive and where else can you go?
