Quote:
it will race with just one energy-retrieval system rather than the permissible two, and that the R18 will run in the lowest of the four sub-classes of hybrid power.

That contrasts with Porsche, which has announced its intention to run in the highest, 8MJ sub-class, and Toyota, which is expected to announce it will run with either 6 or 8MJ when its new TS040 HYBRID is unveiled on Thursday.

The rules can't be too bad for diesel then.

Full carbon it looked so cool. Another example how a livery van ruin a car.

lol what? That's just wrong generalisation. It's the opposite.

at least in this forum I got the impression the GTs are way more popular because of having closer fights more often.

btw, I also like the livery. Could have been better but it's very far from hideous

A bit small userbase, so a couple of GT fans can give distorted impression.

To me GT (Pro only, GT Am could be removed and I wouldn't even notice) is secondary interest, still above LMP2 which is really irrelevant to me.

That's in WEC/Le Mans, in TUSC(/ALMS) it's a completely another matter and the best class.

Remember last year the GT top position battle got quite close in the end? Oh yeah, we might remember if it had been actually shown. ACO television directing doesn't give much chance to follow GT.

Im always been more interested in GT since like 2002. Especially when we still had GT1 the battle between Corvette and Prodrive (Ferrari/Aston Martin) was IMO the most interesting stuff of Le Mans since Audi was dominating those years quite hard.

Nowadays my interest in both is probably equally as big. Especially since Peugeot and Toyota came back in the game P1 started interesting me more. Because let's be honest Audi beating an Pescarolo isn't really exciting (except 2005 maybe). But still due to me being a Prodrive supporter, I tend more to GT

GT's sparked the interest in racing indefinitely for me, also back around 2001 when FIA-GT decided to take up the Spa 24 and I totally fell in love with the Chrysler Viper GTS-R. That interest carried over to all multi-class series, which is why GT's at Le Mans continue to have a special place in my heart. Especially Vipers :(

GT should be all that there is on this side of the pond.

This seems to be the low-downforce version for Le Mans? Less squashed.

The intakes on the front are sealed, so it is at least in low downforce config. We'll see how much that changes come Spa..if they bother changing it. Toyota have been rather lazy and reserved with the efforts.

what is happening with these prototypes sportscars?

Each year they seem to look more and more square, the seem to look more and more like a 'singleseater with an additional chassis on top'...

what happened with the very nice and smooth lines of

or the

or this one:

and the mandatory midwing (or how it is called to prevent the car to go airborne) isn't helping much either regarding smoothness of the lines of the cars.

Aerodynamics happened. You can change the rules, but engineers will not unlearn things.

The 917K had a habit of getting light over the front end at high speed. The older cars also have a greater frontal aera, whilst cars like the 908 and R18 try and open up gaps to flow through the body to reduce the frontal drag.

Pretty cool fact though of the new Toyota.

New Toyota LMP1 WEC car close to 1000bhp

I've reached my autosport limit so can't check the whole article. But that's quite cool.

Also, hello from 1993. Between that and 2000s there were either bothed up pseudo-GT rules or no real manufacturrer competition.

Protip: affiliate racer.com has 100% same stories (at least everything Gary Watkins writes): http://www.racer.com/wec-le-mans/345-la ... to-1000bhp :p

and F1 news appear on Yahoo F1 (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/formula-1/archive/1.html), just with different headlines.
