Not so shocking is it? They couldn't take on the diesels with their first car and the new car was a complete disaster on all fronts so the only way back to quick wins is this. Its a shame really..

Not surprising, but it sucks. Imagine a proper Aston Martin prototype to take on Audi, Peugeot, Toyota and Porsche. Shame they burnt the bridges with Lola. :(

It's better than i expected. I believed Aston only go to sell their GT3 and only run at Spa 24 Hours. So, if it(s true, we will finally what the Vantage GTE got.

Isn't it supposed to go down the pitlane on electric with the engine off?

It has to prove it has the ability to do so, but I don't think it's required to actually do it in race conditions.

Expect to see these on every car next year. ACO still afraid of flying cars.

MulsanneMike named these after Big Honking Fin: Big Honking Holes.

Can't say it looks good, but how does it help the cars not taking off?

Allows air to escape freely from underneath the car.

Mulsanne Mike Fuller again explains it best: http://www.mulsannescorner.com/newssept11.html

Once again, they are trying to counter the problem, rather than act upon the issues causing it.

And the FIAs new proposals for the cars strike me as shit too.

(referring to: http://twitter.com/#!/mulsannescorner/s ... 4660911104) Maybe the new proposals are acting upon? Holes are for current regs and if this 2014 revamp is induced by the fear of another flying car then it would be disappointing if the fins and holes would be still needed.

Made by Dome, run by ORECA. Kinda feels like Toyota are putting minimal effort into it.

Dome is not involved.

I'm also a bit disappointed because at least this means it will not be 100% in-house. Maybe Toyota wants to have their own Joest. Great news for Oreca though and of course not the first time they've done something similar.

Dome has been involved since the start, all of Toyotas mules have been Domes. They've gotten them to do the pre-entry testing and evaluation.

With current information I'm going to say WAS involved. The official blah blah claims the car has been designed and will be built in Cologne/TMG. Dome's HQs are in Japan. And right after the Toyota's announcement there was a weird, disappointing sounding Twitter message by some Dome president.

How much of the test mules have been carried over to the final car remains to be seen. Last week's Autosport confirmed Toyota comissioned, apparently after the initial studies started in 2010, two cars from Dome, S101 and another one (S102?) complying with the regs. Summary of the article (they interviewed Toyota's Toshiaki Kinoshita): http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showpos ... tcount=511

ORECA isn't in Cologne either, isn't going to stop this, is it?

Fact is, this stinks of a half arsed effort, which given Toyotas recent motorsport history leaves me a little worried.

The PR claim isn't about race teams and Oreca is not going to be involved in this as a constructor, is it? 8)

I have the same worry, but on the other hand this could mean they're doing this because they can. Sort of buying expertise? Peugeot started from scratch and needed quite a few races to really perfect how the team works.

Apparently George-Howard Chappell has resigned (or has been fired, we will never know I guess) after 13 years of Prodrive-service. Wonder where he's heading to now.
