Really?? Grand Am's prototypes are already too damn slow as is. They didn't even look fast in person at Watkins Glen when I was there this year.

Well the GT cars are around GT3 spec, but weighed down. And they aren't much slower than the DPs. So consider that the DPs are only around old GT2 speeds, they aren't fast at all.

GT's are far closer to GT4 spec... The Evora GT4 could add some tiny aero and be competitive in Rolex GT. The Riley DPG2 was topping out better than 190 around Daytona, it just hasn't got any pace through high-speed corners or under braking.

Interesting that you never see top speed or telemetry from DP's... Would like to know their actual speeds.

I actually had telemetry data from Gainsco in 2006. If I'd known it'd be worth looking at now days I'd have kept a copy, but got rid of it years ago.

When is SPEED going to take a break in the Daytona 24 Hours? The first MotorsTV schedule for that saturday is online and they're broadcasting live from 9pm all the way to 5am (11pm ET)

SPEED hasn't announced their broadcast schedule yet... That would sound about right though - the start is at 3:30PM EST (9:30 in your schedule), so breaking the coverage at 11pm is probably accurate. There may be a break for some bullcrap in there but who knows.

Unfortunately SPEED brings in its camera crews overnight so when they break, everyone else has to break too as there's nothing to produce.

In the past, they've returned around 6am or 7am... Unfortunately, with the start having been moved from mid-day up to 3:30PM in the past few years, they didn't return until 9am last year. With there being an international audience they may well return earlier... But don't hold your breath.

15.5 hours of racing then by my calculations, that's not bad I suppose.

DP Entries: 14
GT Entries: 42

It's gonna be a great one. The new DP's look killer but to me the GT battle will be the most amazing thing ever! ALMS teams coming in like Extreme Speed, Flying Lizard, and Risi vs. the best of Grand Am with Brumos, Stevenson, SpeedSource, Turner, TRG.... Plus we've got Alex Job Racing with a solid driver lineup and how about Liqui Moly Team Englster with an entry!

CANNOT WAIT :)

News floated around SportsBusiness Journal a few days ago that SPEED will be streaming live video of the overnight hours on their website. Not sure to what extent that is true, whether we're looking at a properly produced show, commentary, or just static cameras... We'll wait for SPEED's official announcement soon.

Rolex 24 testing begins today, with the first session now done and dusted. The session results aren't posted yet but Grand-Am has posted that the top 5's were as follows:

DP:
1. Suntrust
2. Action Express
3. Gainsco
4. Spirit of Daytona
5. Ganassi

GT:
1. Stevenson
2. Burtin
3. TRG 67
4. TRG 68
5. Extreme Speed

Interesting that in DP the top 5 are all DPG3s, which were a solid second off the pace at the December test days... Wonder what Grand-Am has done to slow down the DPG2's...

You don't think the teams were able to gain the speed on their own after they gathered data from the December tests?

Can't wait to see the new cars racing, I think I prefer the Corvettes looks to the Rileys, but they both look good! Image

Considering the DPG2's are around 2 seconds per lap slower than they were in December and last year, and the DPG3's are around a tenth quicker than in December, nope.

Are there only 2 DP manufacturers? Isn't Dallara or any other chassis builder going to enter?
